But thanks to daycare (I'm guessing) he's really good at independent play. We have a gated playroom with a ton of toys and he just wanders around the room playing with everything. Every few minutes he comes over to cuddle, and then he's away again. I'm usually able to just hang out on my phone if I'm not up for playing with him. But it would nice one day to actually sit down and watch a movie with him. Once I was on the phone with one of the advice nurses describing symptoms and she said, "Well, make sure they get plenty of rest...oh wait, I see here they are 15 month old twin boys. Sorry, they are not going to rest. They will be bouncing off the walls. I just have to be honest about that." And I SO appreciated that! Because rest is not something we do. But I try to enforce independent play time as much as possible, and have since the beginning...I think "perpetual motion" and "independently playing" do not have to be mutually exclusive, as in, even if they are super-active they need to entertain themselves. At that age, for our LO's, entertaining themselves was either toys in a pack n play or bouncing around in an exersaucer while I did some stuff in another room. I have to laugh because I felt the same way! It just in very recent weeks where my almost-21 m/o will sit for a few minutes to color/paint or cuddle on the sofa to watch tv (and that's only really late at night, close to bed time, sometimes). I had terrible allergies yesterday, took some Benedryl and was zonked the rest of the day. All she wanted to do was drag me around to play/color/etc, so I know how you feel. </p> <p>At least in the past couple of months, I've been able to let her play without having to constantly watching out things going in the mouth, falling, etc. Before that, our gated area with a rug, was really helpful for some safe independent play. Eventually she will get used to it! But only for a bit, she is still not interested in watching TV for more than 5 minutes. I COULD entertain a baby when I had one, but that if I felt like being lazy sometimes I could hunker down on the couch with him or her sometimes too. We spend 100% of her awake time either playing with her on the floor where she can roll around and reach for things and throw things and roll some more, or with her in her jumper (where she JUMPS JUMPS JUMPS). If I try to sit or lay on the couch with her (even if I have her facing me and I'm trying to chat with her and make faces at her) she just squirms and squirms to get loose so she can roll around some more. </p> <p>And its not that I want a lazy kid. I'm just wondering at what point kids learn to just... chill. For like half an hour even? </p> <p>Do I pretty much need to wait until she's 5 and cares enough about disney to watch frozen or something? haha</p> <p>(this is not really a big concern. just curious!) </p>
