This happened to my son while on amoxicillin for an ear infection. It was the second round, day 9 when he developed a rash that looked a lot like Fifth's Disease.

Yeah, sometimes kids can develop a rash and other symptoms even after they've completed the antibiotic course. Our littlest is on day 8 of Augmentin and has a slight rash (normal reaction - not allergic). It's all so interesting, you'd think the body would react right away.

Happened to me too with penicillin-V after my wisdom teeth were removed. I was so miserable! The doctor said I have a penicillin allergy.

@autumnlove: DS had the same reaction to Keflex. We stopped it as soon as we suspected it was causing the hives, and they cleared up the same day.

That is common for rash (non anaphylactic) allergies for it to appear 7-10 days later.

My oldest developed hives on day 8 and 10 of amoxicillin one time and he has taken it a million times. That was his only symptom and has been on it since and it didn't happen again so we don't believe it was an allergy. I know our ped says sometimes hives and rashes can occur because of illness. It's so hard to pinpoint hives and rashes sometimes.

The fact that she dizziness and swelling would make me think possible allergy.

Hope she gets better and you're able to figure it out.

@autumnlove: this is actually a very typical presentation for antibiotic allergies - I'd hold any more doses and see what the md wants to do.

LO is on her 8th day (of 10) of Keflex and she says she is dizzy, has hives/rash and looks a little swollen. This happened after her dose this morning.

I called her dr and left a message. Has your LO ever experienced a late side effect to a med?
