@Foodnerd81: my 2nd is 4.5 months and they both go down by 7 and the baby started sttn last week. I’m officially in sleep/alone time HEAVEN. I was not enjoying life for a while there. On Sunday I stayed up until 11pm bingeing Netflix and I was so giddy.

@SweetiePie: I tried early bedtime last night. The little one slept fine, but the almost 5 year old was up twice over night and up early this morning. Then little skipped nap again today and is a basket case. But it’s hard to do bedtime much earlier!

That said my neighbor has a 5 month old and it’s a good reminder of how far we have come.

@Foodnerd81: The upside to no nap is that early bedtime. For all the frustration I felt when he didn’t nap for whatever reason, I always felt that “ahhhhhhhhhh this isn’t so bad” feeling when he went to bed at like 6:30/7 😂
And now that he’s dropped it entirely he goes to bed at 6:30/7 every night and it feels so different from an 8pm bedtime, it’s crazy!

I thought she was over it just after 4, but she can still fall asleep during her quiet time 50/50 at 5.5. If I want her to go to sleep before 9 though, I have to limit the nap to 1 hour.

B dropped it at home at 3.5 and a bit - his grandparents were visiting for 10 days, we decided to let him stay up, and that was it. He kept napping at daycare for another few months, though. And he’s 4.5 now and he’ll fall asleep if we’re driving around 1pm or sometimes on the couch watching tv and sleep for a few hours, but it makes bedtime pretty terrible.

@PinkElephant: I swear sometimes it's the days that I am SURE she will take a great nap, from all the activities and heat and everything, that she just rolls around and plays in her crib. She had her first morning of camp this morning, they were outside twice in 90+ degree weather, she ate a big lunch, and somehow didn't nap. So... early bed time tonight!

He stopped when he started afternoon 4k, so he was 4.25. He still slept every day when he laid down, but it was starting to effect bedtime. I hope #2 keeps napping just as long, she's still going strong at 28 months.

It really worked out if she napped she would be up till at least 9-9:30 every night!

I don't remember how old my oldest (now 6) was, but I think it was old-ish...3.5 maybe? It was easier because she's very close in age to DD2, so I just made them both nap, and she didn't really question it. On the flip side, DD2 was definitely pretty done by 3, probably because it was easier for me if she didn't nap so we could go out and do things. DD3 tried to quit at 18 months, but she's now 20 months and I have to wake her up from naps - she can easily take a huge 3 hr + nap if I let her with all the tiring summer activities.

In your shoes I would push on with the quiet time. I know several people who did this from around 2.5 -3, and the kids eventually started sleeping again, and were some of the longest (in terms of how long they held onto the nap) napping kids we knew. @Mrs. Champagne: is so right that at least summer is an easier time to wear them out to try to MAKE nap happen! :) :)

My son switched to like every other day around 3.5... and then slowly worked his way out of it. Now he’s 4.25 and I can get him to no once every 10 days or so haha. Today he’s been napping for two hours after spending the last week constantly outside.

He’s sounds asleep by 730 though when he doesn’t nap. And gets up at 7. If he does nap he is wound up and can struggle to fall asleep. Today is Canada day and fireworks are at 10pm so it’s a perfect day for a nap!

My 4.5 year old still naps most days. He can skip it but only for a max of 2 days at a time. Any longer and he’s a disaster. It does make bed time tough some days, but he obviously still needs it. My almost 2 year old naps for like 3-4 hours every day at home. Thank god, because that girl is TROUBLE lol.

DD1 napped until about 3.5. Then it was quiet time. DD2 is only 2 and 3mo, and is already dropping her nap. It's killing us. Some days she's fine with no nap, other days she is a complete mess. She used to sleep at day care no matter what and now she's started dropping them there too! This may work out in that we have to move bedtime earlier this summer. DD1 starts kindergarten in August and they share a room. if she's not going to nap, earlier bedtime will be necessary.

@Mrs. Goose: I think a lot has to do with the kid too! I have friends who tried and failed with enforcing quiet time, and others whose almost five year old still takes a two hour nap and has to be woken up and goes to sleep no problems before 8. I’m surprised quiet time has lasted as long as it has with my almost 5 year old but she gets overwhelmed so easily and has a hard time regulating herself, so the quiet time in her room helps her so much. I also know other kids who naturally read books and chill out early afternoon without being forced to.

I’m realizing part of my problem is that it’s really hard to put her to bed any earlier on non nap days. We do bedtime with both girls together. The older one can’t fall asleep any earlier (7:30-8 ish), but the younger one would be really upset doing bedtime without big sister. Plus we usually do something in the afternoon (playing outside) come in for dinner and then go straight to the bedtime stuff. It will take a big adjustment when she does need an earlier bedtime!

Just after 2 years old and getting quiet time to happen can be a struggle and max quiet time is an hour. I’m apparently not a very authoritative parent.

LO 1 stopped right at 3yrs old, LO 2 stopped at 2.5 yrs old :meh: , and LO 3 is still going strong at over 2.5 yrs old.

I usually stop their naps when it seems obvious that it is interfering with their 7pm bedtime. LO 3 is still taking 3+ hr naps and sleeping an additional 12hrs at night, so crossing my fingers it continues for a while longer! I find they go through phases and if you don't think they are quite done yet, it works to ride out the 'non nap' few days or week, and they often go back to their longer naps. every kid's sleep needs are different though, for sure.

Both my boys stopped napping around 2.5 years old. I miss the nap sometimes when I wish I could have downtime in the afternoons, but it's nice to be able to go out and do stuff during the day without having to rush back home for nap time.

Between 3 and 3.5 he really stopped napping. Now I still put him in his crib at this time for quiet time (when we are home and it’s convenient) but he only falls asleep if he is sick or it’s extremely hot outside, and then it takes him a while to fall asleep at night.

My older I forced her to drop it at 3.5 because bedtime was waaaaay too long and late. She was still happy to sleep 2+ hours most days but I loved moving bedtime up 2 hours! She has way higher sleep needs even now at 6.

My younger with lower sleep needs started fighting it before 3 and stopped napping at home sometime around his bday (mostly that means I got sick of trying to keep him in his room). He still napped at preschool 2 days a week (which led to not fun bedtimes). He can’t sleep in no matter how much or little he sleeps at night and will still car nap some to make it up - as long as it’s not too late in the day or too long, that seems to work, but I wish he could just sleep in!!
