10.5 months, because she was going down for her morning nap fine, but then if she had more than an hour, there wasn't time for another nap in the afternoon. I started off pushing her only nap back to 11 and then gradually to 12.

For a good few months after that she would fall asleep in the car after 9am though, so I had to keep trips short. I could have messed with her naps/kept them short to keep both naps until around 14-15 months probably, but a 1 nap schedule worked much better for us, so that's what we did.

I know the "experts" tend to say that babies drop to 1 nap around 15-18 months, but IRL I found it to be more like 11-12 months.

I didn't read all the replies, but lo is in between 1 and 2 naps right now at 12.5 months. Around 10 months, she dropped to 1 nap at daycare-- they are flexible about nap times so they were really following her cues, the though 1 nap also works better with their schedule in that she used to take her first nap during circle and "outing"/small group activity time, and 1 nap means she gets to do those. At home, she almost always takes 2 naps but they're both shorter. I follow her cues though so the time and length all vary

@Mae: I also thought 11 months was early, but every baby is different. My DS didn't really give me a choice anyway, he just flat out refused to take 2 naps once he turned 11 months.

When did your LO drop to 1 nap? 11 months! Pretty early but he was showing a lot of signs of dropping to one nap.

How did you know it was time? He stopped napping for his second afternoon nap. He would just sit and talk in his crib for an hour.. This went on for over a month so I knew it wasn't just a phase.

Did the drop to 1 nap seem "on schedule" with when they dropped other naps, or did it seem early/late? I honestly don't remember when he dropped his other naps.

Dropping to 1 nap was hard at first because he was still tired in the morning so I had to try and keep him up later in the mornings. At first he would nap around 11 and eat lunch after. It also helped that he used to go to bed super early (6 pm). Eventually his nap became later and later as he was able to handle longer awake time.

Now he sleeps 830-7ish and naps at 1:00 for 3 hours.

My LO is 11 months old and only takes one short nap. About an hour or less. She kind of dropped her second nap on her own. She's exhausted by the end of the day and has been going to bed earlier.

When did your LO drop to 1 nap? About 14 months

How did you know it was time? She was stretching her awake time so she wasn't ready for a morning nap until 10am or later, and then her afternoon nap wouldn't be until 3pm or later, and then bedtime was like 9pm! When we tested out one nap, she also started sleeping longer at naptime, so it seemed to me she was ready to consolidate.

Did the drop to 1 nap seem "on schedule" with when they dropped other naps, or did it seem early/late? She has always dropped naps on the early side but I also would push her to it when she started acting ready because I couldn't handle the in-between stage. I just would rip off the bandaid even if it meant some cranky days and early bedtimes as she adjusted. I think 14 months was on the early side but we were actually on the late side for my Oct 2013 due date group.

@BabyTsMom: not earlier, I would say he woke up at the same time. When we switched to 1 nap, it was also only 1hour 15 min-1hour 30 min for a few months, so he was definitely tired over night.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: @hilsy85: When you had to put LO to bed early because of nap refusals, did they sleep longer overnight to compensate, or did they end up waking up earlier the following morning?
I'm scared of early (or, earlier than they already are) morning wakeup, so if I put LO down earlier, it's only like 30 minutes earlier.

Around 16 months--he would still take his morning nap no problem but was refusing his afternoon nap. It was a long painful transition for us, since he couldn't really last past 10 or 10:30 for a long time, so he would nap from 10-12, and then be exhausted by 6, 6:30. He was also waking up around 6:30. Over 3 or 4 months, he eventually moved to being able to nap around 12:30-2:30, and by 2 he was napping from 1-3. I just really tried to keep him busy in the mornings, but didn't push him too hard and just resigned myself to early bedtime if nap was early.

Around 14 months. Our nannies daughter was two months older and it was hard to have them on different schedules. She had already started giving us a hard time with her second nap - falling asleep at five of six after refusing earlier. We kept her up with really fun morning activities and she made the transition easily in a week or so.

Both girls dropped to 1 nap at 11 months. I didn't really do anything myself, I just followed their signs. They started completely refusing their second nap, so I started keeping them up just a little bit later and only doing one nap. This meant an earlier bedtime. It worked better for everyone.

11 mo. I read all the sleep blogs that said that's unlikely but it was actually impossible to get get down for both naps. The first one would push the second one to 4-5pm and then she'd be up till 9pm. 1 was much more functional.

@2littlepumpkins: @Mamasig: when your LO was transitioning to one nap, did you initially start the nap earlier, like 11-11:30ish, then gradually move the nap time later? or did you just push your LO to stay awake till 12-1ish and start the nap then?
also, how does lunch fit into all of this? If nap starts at 11 and they sleep till 1 (hopefully!!), is it better to feed a late morning snack or just a late lunch when they get up? I'm probably overthinking this.

13 months, we tried at 11 months and it backfired due to over tiredness. He went from being a good sleeper to both naps being terrible every day, so we knew it was time. I think 13 months is still pretty early which fits in with him, he went to 2 naps just before 6 months which I think is early. He didn't walk full time until after he was on one nap, and it didn't seem to make much difference to the napping once he did!

@Mae: Naps have always been pretty rigidly scheduled because of daycare doing that, and we try to keep that going at home. I'm guessing T probably attempted to put her down for a nap and she wouldn't nap, so she'd scrap the nap (if she cries, she wakes up the other kids), but then she'd go down at noon instead of the previous 9am and 2pm nap times. Sort of a "if 9am doesn't work, we'll try noon." method?
