LO wouldn't take the paci on the first try. He's a boob guy through and through but if DH offered the paci 3-4 times and gently held it in his mouth, he'd take it and off to dreamland he goes. He still won't take it from me though.

We cobed now and he usually STTN but when we weren't cobedding, DH offering the paci was the best way to get him to sleep in the rnp.

ETA-routine/pattern... Probably around 13 weeks when I went back to work. We also started cobedding then and that helped LO STTN.

@grizz: I had to try a few different pacis, and eventually went with a soothie. I really did not want to use one, but it has really helped since we started using it a few days ago. Before, she only cried when she was hungry, so I had no problem feeding on demand. She's started to comfort nurse and fuss more though, and the soothie has really helped calm her down during those periods. We are able to get another hour of sleep out of her sometimes. And I didn't want to rely on it, so if she spits it out, I just leave it.

Good luck!!

My LO didn't start sleeping longer than 2.5 hours til she was almost 4 months.
We had a super rough time with sleep and still do. Even now at 15 months she rarely does longer than 4 hours at a time....I don't even feel like we have a routine yet!!!

I think LO really got into a routine around 4 months. I have to credit our daycare lady for getting him into a good routine. LO only went to daycare three days a week, but she helped with timing.

I tried a paci again after this last feed, and he spit it out. I wonder if I keep offering he'll eventually take it? We've tried several and he seems to tolerate the Wubbanub the best, just not for more than a couple of minutes at a time.

@hilsy85: @blackbird: I've been kind of in survival mode and just grabbing sleep where I can, but I'm going to try starting a bedtime routine and wake up time like you suggested!

My saving grace is that the kid doesn't seem to be caffeine sensitive...Mama needs a cup of coffee this morning! :)

Sometimes they eat out of habit because they just want to suckle. If your LO is legit hungry, the paci will NOT make him happy, lol. It can make your LO more of a meal-eater and less of a 'snacker'.

Like Hilsy said, around 8 weeks I was getting her up at about the same time every day, starting a bath at 7pm (then moved to 730, and she was going to bed consistently between 8 and 9. It really really helped, but it took a couple weeks to stick and for me to really SEE her fall into the routine. Good luck!

We didn't get into a routine until around 5.5 months and he still isn't crazy predictable. We were at one wake a night for months and are now back to 2 (8 months). He went 3 weeks waking up before 5 and two weeks sleeping in until 7. I will say that after about 4 months I felt like my own hormones had leveled off and I handled the sleep deprivation/stress WAY better and now after a rough teething night (I got 2 2 hour chunks of sleep) I feel pretty decent. It'll get better. Sorry, no advice just hang in there :)

I agree with @hilsy85: about the paci if he's comfort nursing. I was super anti-paci with LO, but next time... No way. Our next kid will be getting one earlier than we tried with LO. We settled into a decent routine around 3 months, but it was VERY flexible. Life got much more predictable around 6-7 months.

Do you think he's legit hungry whenhe eats or nursing for comfort? If he's comfort nursing then I agree with trying the paci...if he really is hungry he'll let you know.

It sounds like maybe it's just a really long growth spurt? For us we were in a routine around 8 wks but then it fell apart around 4months. So things are always changing! Does he have a consisten bedtime/wake time? Those things were helpful in getting us into a routine.

C is two months old, and we had a blissful 4 days where he got up twice a night...Now we're back to square one: he eats every 1-1.5 hours day and night. A longer stretch of sleep? Never. I'm sort of at a loss. He's getting enough to eat and gaining well, but he's exhausted, I'm exhausted, and something's got to give. His pedi and the LC both say its just the luck of the draw, that i have a high maintenance baby. The pedi wants me to 'stretch' him by delaying feeds with a pacifier, but I'm not comfortable with that. Do I just give it time or is there something I can do to help us fall into a better routine? When did you find a routine with your LO?
