She's 22 weeks today and started doing back to belly regularly a week ago. Still doesn't reliably do belly to back.

@FutureMrsMcK: My LO is 3 months old today and she hasn't rolled over yet. She also HATES tummy time, her legs and feet go up and her arms go out and she kinda just wobbles around lol.

@PinkElephant: Nothing too intense. I would lay her flat on her back and pull her to sitting using her hands, to help strengthen her belly and neck muscles. I'd also lay her on belly and sort of guide her into rolling. I think her biggest problem was getting started with it, and not knowing what to do with her little arm. I guided her to straightening her arm out in front of her, and gave her a little nudge, and she started needing me less and less. Now that she's mastered it, I can't get her to stay on her belly for more than 10 seconds!!! I work with her back to belly rolling by laying her on her back, and pulling her leg over just far enough where her body starts to turn, and she flips herself right over the rest of the way.

This may sound crazy but I swear he rolled over from tummy to back at 3 weeks and has since done it a few more times (he is now 6 weeks). Every baby is different and yours will roll over too. Have you ever met someone who doesn't have fine motor skills? We all get there eventually.

@FutureMrsMcK: J rolled over back to belly at 15 weeks (I think?) and has only gone from belly to back maybe two or 3 times and they were obviously not on purpose b/c he freaked out and started crying :) He HATES tummy time. He's okay for about 5 minutes, after that? No. Dice. He wants to be up in his exersaucer.

I ignore 99% of the milestone emails that come through. About once a month I'll check the milestone checklist from parents as teachers, but I ignore everything else. Every baby is SO different, you just have to enjoy every moment and realize that your LO will do everything in his own time :)

@jennylynn: I'm curious to hear more about the exercises you've done with your LO if you don't mind sharing.

My 5-month-old LO likes to roll onto her sides to sleep and play, but doesn't roll front to back or back to front much unless she's REALLY motivated.

LO is getting close to doing this too (also 16w)!
He's supposedly gone belly-back once (but only DH saw...so, we'll just say it hasn't truly happened until I see it haha). I think he might go back-belly soon. He really cranes his neck when he's on his back and tries to throw his legs over. So exciting :)

charlie did front to back at 4 months, and then back to front at 4.5 months. olive was a month later with rolling over, but she was also born a month early so she was about the same as charlie.

once charlie could roll back to belly he always slept on his belly. but even though olive could roll back to belly, she didn't consistently start sleeping on her belly until 8 months.

Our LO was late. She didn't roll over for the first time until 6 months (belly to back) and not frequently until 7 months. She still hasn't rolled back to belly and she's 8 months, but she's close. She's sitting up and hitting all of the other physical milestones, so I tried not to sweat it. I tried to do exercises with her to help her realize how to roll, and I really think that helped.

my son started rolling belly to back at 3.5 months. he's not super consistent yet, but it's most days (at 4 mo). he hangs out on his side a lot these days too, playing with his feet. he's only done back to belly once on his play mat.

my daughter absolutely hated tummy time at first, but I used the boppy to help her build up some strength and now she handles it better. she is still not rolling over, but is getting close in the same ways you described. i'm not worried. our ped said it's actually more like a 6 month milestone, rather than a 4.

E seems like he's getting close....today he had his butt high up in the air (he was like a pyramid) and it was starting to lean, but he never made it over...but he HATES tummy time and often just ends up lying flat on the ground crying.

I read something today (one of those weekly development emails) that said he should have rolled over (he's 16 weeks today). When did you LO first roll over? Was it front to back first? Anyone else's LO HATE tummy time?
