LO has it now and the nurse told us he could go back once he didn't have a fever anymore.

i waited until the blisters calmed down. even though i've heard that the main thing is to wait until the fever is over, it didn't feel right to send him in with blisters/bumps--didn't want to freak people out.

Every time LO has gotten it (4 times before he turned 2!), it happened to be the weekend. Our doctor said to keep him home for the week. Day care was fine with him coming back after 24 hours fever free, but I just couldn't send him in looking like that. I wouldn't be happy to see another kid covered in blisters in his class.

@Boheme: Xander didn't have a fever or the blisters in his mouth. And the blisters on the rest of him really just seemed to be his eczema flaring up - his eczema was really bad all over his body - there was nothing to really indicating that it was specifically HFM. Until I got it! And then I realized that that's what Xander must've had and he gave it to me! I feel bad if he gave it to any of the other kids in daycare, though that's where he must've picked it up, so someone there already had it.

@Adira: That happened to a friend of mine! Her LO only had blisters in her mouth/throat, and all signs pointed to teething since no other LOs had it - didn't want to eat much, low grade fever, etc.

Wish I had some advice for you. Xander continued to go to daycare the entire time he had HFM because we didn't realize he had it until a few weeks later when I was diagnosed with it. I hope your LO can go back soon!

DS came down with HFM a week ago, and I'm not sure when to send him back to daycare. He has been fever free since Friday night/Saturday morning. Our ped said Wednesday, but I discovered two intact blisters on his heels so I'm thinking of keeping him out til next Monday. What would you do?
