We follow his cues when it comes to sleep. He's 9.5 months and still has some 3 nap days, some 2. The 3rd nap usually happens when the first 2 were very early, or short, and are happening less frequently now.

He has been on 2 naps since around 6 months! It just happened naturally for us. He wakes up around 8, down for a nap at 10... sleeps til 12 or 1, back down for another nap around 3, wakes up around 4 or 5... bed at 7:30 or 8!

LO is also at 5.5 mo and naps are all over the place. Awake time is around 2 hours, and we usually have 3-4 naps per day.

@MamaMagpie: we're in the same boat. I'm hoping it's just because he's sick but naps and bedtime have gone out the window. :(

At 8 months, DS was teeter tottering between 2-3, tho mostly 2 naps. by 9 months, he was a solid 2x napper.

At 15 months, he's still in the 2x nap camp!

Eeep! How has two days gone by?! Sorry for the late response, and thank you bees for your advice! It seems like most of you dropped a nap a bit later than where we are now...I'll keep that in mind and just chalk up any off days to being just that, "off days".

My LO is 9 months and still doing well on 3 naps. I feel like he's a little old for 3 naps, but it works for him so I'm not messing with it! I put him down for a nap after every 2 hours awake, and his first two naps are a solid hour and the third is sometimes a bit shorter.

DD was a sleepy baby and didn't drop to 2 naps until 13 months when her 3rd nap was down to 30 minutes. Then she didn't drop to one nap until 22 months. I know she's really late in terms of nap transition but she seemed to do well on the naps and when I tried to drop 3rd nap earlier she was really fussy and restless.

8-9 months. Before then she will still sneak in a
20 min cat nap on the way home from day care.

LO is almost 8 months and is in the process of dropping the 3rd nap. It happened over the last couple of weeks and she did it on her own. On the weekends now she takes two long naps instead of 3 shorter ones. She's having a harder time during the week because she sucks at napping at daycare...it's either 2 or 3 short naps. I'm hoping she consolidates those soon!

DS is 8 months and I think we're starting this transition now. His three naps were 20-30 minutes, so I've been trying keeping him up a bit longer between.... It's been rough and confusing though! I'll be following this for sure!

I'm interested to read the replies. LO is 6 months and her naps are still all over the place and depend on what time she wakes up for the day and how long her naps are. Once in awhile she will have two long naps but more often she has 3 naps, and sometimes 4! The only thing that is consistent is that she can't really make it longer than 2 hours in between naps.

We are in a similar situation. What I have tried to do to get 2 naps more often is to extend the awake time between the 1st and 2nd nap to 3hrs. This happens more on the days we go out in the morning and the nap gets pushed back.

I don't really feel that LO needs to go from 3 to two naps but she is the same age & does the same thing. Her first nap usually runs about 30 minutes, second 45 min to an hour & usually her last nap is 1.5 to 2 hours. She seems happy & doesn't fight her sleep...I figure until she starts consistently fighting a nap, we will stick to 3.

DS is 5.5 months and I'm wondering what signs to look for and when others made the transition.

For the past week or so he's taken two shorter naps (about 35-50 minutes) and one longer nap (1-1.5 hours...sometimes even two hours!). We typically put him down about 2 hours from his last waking...should we stretch that time out and consolidate his naps into two?

How did you transition and how did you know it was time?
