6 months is when she stretched out naps on her own! Nothing we did worked.

Selfishly, this makes me feel so much better to hear I wasn't the only one. Mine is 20 months now and he'll range from 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes. Still, I wonder how to stretch the short ones. I've been surrounded by friends/family members who have marathon nappers and that's a rarity in our house.

He probably stretched out to a 1 hour nap, and a 30 minute nap when he went to 2 naps around 7-8 months (also around the time we sleep trained).

@kes18: Isn't it amazing how babies have like an internal clock?? Mine has been doing 30 minute naps... earlier I was watching him in his crib on the monitor, and crossing my fingers at the 30 minute mark... and then he cried at 31 minutes. *sigh*

Horrible until 11 months when she dropped to one nap. And even then, if we're home it's dicey. Daycare reliably gets 1 x 2 hour nap though.

5.5-6mo. when she grew out of the 4mo sleep regression and when she was old enough for the 2-a-day naps.

She was a chronic catnapper and would wake up after 30m on the dot. And she was so fussy in the evenings.

After 5.5 mo she started taking anywhere from 45m-2hr naps. It really just depends. Her average is 1hr in the morning and 1-1.5hr in the afternoon now.

Around 5-6 mo here. It helped if I was near her after a sleep cycle. If I quickly soothed her, she would usually go back to sleep.

Sadie's cat nap period was 4-7 months. By 8 months she was taking 2 reliable naps, and by 12 months she was on one long nap. She's 2 now, and still taking one long nap in the afternoon.

goes back and forth for us. she'll nap well for a few weeks then crappy for a few weeks. She's almost 9mo right now and all this week has been mostly 30-45 min naps with a few random 1hr ones thrown in. But two weeks ago they were all 1.5-2 hrs. So who knows. I've learned to never count on things staying the same.

I'd love to know the magic age! 8mos and DS is still a 30-45 min napper. If you run in right when he wakes up and hold him he'll sleep another 45min :bummed: which is no help for daycare days...

Maybe around 8-9 months they passed the 30-45 minute mark. Before that, nothing would extend them. They got to the 2-3 hour mark when he went down to one nap. However, as he got older they are now around 2 hours.

LO1 was a horrible napper until I started paying extra close attention to her sleep cues. As it turned out, we were putting her down for her nap too late, so she was over tired, and took a short nap. When we started putting her down earlier for her first nap, her naps extended significantly.

Welllll.... Mostly they are better now at 10.5 months. We go through phases of two good naps a day back to crappy.

Today his naps were both shit. Yesterday both were over an hour. The only way ive been able to get them longer is longer awake time. But that fails miserably sometimes. Sorry I'm not super helpful!!

My little guy is 4.5 months and 99% of his naps are between 30 & 45 min long; so one sleep cycle. It's been like this since he was about 2 months old. I've tried extending them to no avail so I'm just hoping it's a phase he'll naturally grow out of. If you experienced this with your LO, when did they eventually start taking longer naps? Thanks!
