For us it was all pretty gradual. After 2 she became a lot more creative with how she expressed things but that was the only big jump I noticed. I kept waiting for an explosion but she kept chugging along.

@Ree723: That's more how Ellie was-- never did anything until she was sure she could do it perfectly. She went from saying next to nothing to pretty elaborate sentences almost overnight. She now has a really amazing vocabulary and never needed any speech therapy. Lorelei has more of an, "I'll try that," sort of personality, so I'm not at all surprised that she's a talker. She wants to do all the things.

I feel like B is close. He has about 25 words and he's started stringing them together. My guess is he will be hitting it soon.

@Ree723: that's what my LO did with walking. Never took wobbly steps. One day she just stood up and walked halfway across the room, and now she's fully on the go!!

E is almost 17 months and I think we've hit the language explosion in terms of receptive language but definitely not expressive. It seems as though every day she understands more and more words and phrases, but she still really only says 'what's that' and 'what's this', along with loads of babbling.

Knowing my LO though, she will continue to refuse to say words for us until she feels like it and will then probably just start talking in full sentences completely out of the blue. Apparently I did the same with all my milestones as a kid and DD has definitely followed suit so far!

For Lala it was the same as Twine's daughter. For M it's been more like 18-19 months, but at 20 months I'm loving the new words and phrases "I did it!". The language explosion I think is the most fun stage!

How long do these language explosions last? I feel like she's been in one for the past couple of months. She's almost 19 months. She's been repeating after us for quite some time, but lately she's been surprising us with a new word or words daily. One of today's words was "headband."

he's almost 18 months but hasn't hit it yet! :)

he uses a few words and generalizes them over many meanings haha... maybe doesn't help that i understand what he's asking for by context :) i am treasuring this baby-language stage though! :) they grow up too fast!

He is 20 months and I think he's just about hit it. He doesn't necessarily speak in sentences of say more than 2-3 words together but he copies everything we say and is learning at least 5 new words a day. It is so fun

B was 20 months. E is 17 months and probably has around 20 words that she uses? Some are so unclear though.

She has her favorites down! Those being cheese, goldfish (more like ga-ish), daddy, milk, shoe's, hi and please. That's about all that she uses on her own but she imitates more words that I tell her to say (still not exactly clear).
