DS figured it out around 6 months. He often takes it out, plays with it, then puts it back in.
@googly-eyes: Glad there are other parents of soothie addicts. My son gets too excited when he sees his soothie!

DD started to do it at 8 months. One night she let out a whine and I rolled over to find her paci and was going to put it in her mouth but she took it and put it in an fell back asleep.

He's 4 months and he can take it out or push it back in when it starts coming out, but not put it back in (which I wouldn't expect him to at this point anyway).

I know this is an old post but since there seems to be renewed interest... I think dd figured it out around 6 months. She is a soothie addict though!

N is nearly 8 months old and can put his own pacifier in his mouth. He has a wubbanub paci. It is extremely helpful to him for to grab. :)

DS figured this out at around 7 months. At times I wish he didn't know how because rather than going to sleep he'll take his paci out and throw it then scream because he doesn't have it anymore (he's learning bedtime stall tactics early).

I'm curious about this too! DS is almost 5 months, and he is getting closer and closer to figuring it out.

DD is 7.5 months and still can't do it herself.

We only give her a pacifier at nap/bedtimes. If she wakes up, all we need to do is pop the pacifier back in and she goes right back down. I would love it if she could do that herself instead of having to do it 3-4x per night. :-) I thought I'm not sure if she's just not getting enough exposure to it during the day to figure it out on her own, or if it will just click for her around a certain age?

How old was your LO when they figured it out? Did you help him/her with it?
