@Smurfette: I rotate out in Rubbermaid bins once a week; they live in his closet.

We have so many toys, 90% gifted. He hardly ever plays with them unless I'm in there with him or we have a playmate over! So weird. I've been thinking about selling a lot of them to buy the kids a play kitchen but I'm afraid he won't touch it!

@scg00387: Where do you keep the other toys? Maybe she does just miss us. I know she misses DH since she only sees him 3 days a week.
@emg86: In the LR, all we have is a basket of small toys (shape sorter, ring stacker, books, and then some misc small toys) and she still doesn't want to play with them. She will walk in the playroom (next to the LR) and grab a toy, or whin till I get it, and then will put it down and move onto something else. 5 mins is the most she plays with anything.

I think this also an age when they want to do what you do! J "helps" me put stuff in the dryer and unload the dishwasher. She also wipes her table where she eats her snack. She obviously doesn't do a great job at it but she loves it cause we do it too. This morning when she saw me brushing my hair she ran up to me with her brush and started brushing her hair too and was beyond excited about it, lol.

I recently cleaned out all of J's toys. There was way too much stuff out. I limited it to 8 toys in the living room and 5 in her bedroom. I also only put out a certain number of blocks and such. So here's what we have out now (14.5mos) 6 wooden blocks in a basket, 8 Lego type of blocks, shape sorter toy, wipes box filled with scarves, linking beads, mayo jar with wooden disc that we call a coin drop, wooden stacking rings, 4 wooden eggs that she transfers from one metal tin pail to the other. I keep about 10 books in a basket next to her reading chair and a box of cards of animals. In the kitchen she has mini sized pots and pans and kitchen utensils from Ikea and magnets to play with on the dishwasher or side of the fridge. She's obsessed with those magnets.

Maybe you have too many out? My LO started playing with more of our toys once I started rotating them. But he's allowed to play in the Tupperware, etc so I'd say it's about 50/50 toys and playing in the house.

It might also be that she just misses you!! My LO will not leave DH alone on the weekends but plays independently for an hour a day during the week with me (mom is boring, ha!!)

@petunia354: oh yes!! We gave R two drawers full of stuff, but if I forget to lock the tupperware drawer, she is in that. She also loves to bang on the dishwasher, and try and get stuff out of it.
@keepcalmcarrie: That makes me feel better!

At 16 months, the only "toys" J is super into are my mixing bowls and laundry baskets, which he pushes around our hardwood floors for fun. Oh, and basketballs and footballs. All the money I've spent on baby/toddler toys so far (Melissa and Doug stuff, Zany Zoo, Fisher Price toys, Ballapalooza) has been pretty much wasted! The only thing he really loved was his jumper, which he is too heavy for now.

Owen is 18 months and he is starting to get into some independent play with his toys. He'll play with his FP farm for a bit and then move on to something else. He definitely prefers us to play with him but he is getting better at playing on his own now. I will add though, that his favorite pastime is walking around the kitchen tearing my Tupperware out of the cabinets and throwing them around the kitchen. Time for child locks?!

R doesn't seem to love anything. Other then her milk.

We have a lot of toys but she never just plays by herself. She follows us around the house. If we get on the floor to play with her, she will go get a book, sit it our lap, and we read. Repeat. Then she might get up and want the bag of blocks. So I dump them on the floor, and she throws them around for a little and moves on. She seems to just walk around between the toys in the living room and play room, but doesn't really play with things. Unless I sit down and give her something to play with, which lasts 5 mins.

Even outside, she all these toys, but wanted to sit in DH's lap while he was painting Sunday. Even though I was at the water table with her.

She is 16 months. I see ideas on here and pinterest and they look great, but I just don't see her being into anything.
