They "respond" to their names most of the time now. It's interesting having two because I can really tell that they know their names because Blake won't respond when I call Alice's name and she won't respond when I call his. For a while they'd turn around and smile whenever I said anything, so it's really been recently that I could call a name and the right baby would look at me!

I don't think lo responds to her name yet (8.5 months), just to my voice in general

Eta fwiw, our daycare does a developmental screening evaluation (the asq) once/year and they just gave us the results of the 8 month screening and that wasn't one of the areas it covers, even though "communication " is one of the domains. So my guess is that the standard fOr recognizing her name comes later than 8 months

This has actually just been recent, like the past 3-4 weeks, so I'd say it started at 7 months. We do a lot of nicknames, too so I sometimes wonder if it would have been earlier if we just used her real name.

Around 5-6 months is when both LOs started consistently turning their head to look at us when we said their name or any one of their usual nicknames.

Some stuff I've read said it could be happening by now, but I don't think we're there yet, either (7m). Not consistently, at least. We should probably call him by his real name more often, too!

At 8.5 months, I think my kid might be starting to know his name. But eh. He might just be responding more to voices. We use a lot of nicknames too.

Around 7 months. Her name is Sophie and we thought she knew her name months before that but then realised she also responded to Joseph or anything else with the "O" sound in the middle!

I think it was around 6 months that DS was responding to his name. I have read that by 1 year they should be responding to their name, though.

6-7 months? Now at 10 months he loves to ignore mom and dad, but will respond to other people calling his name. Lol

I have no idea when kids generally do this. I think we confuse ours a bit because we call her different things-- Fiona, Fia (my family), Nona (her dad), Boo/boobaloo(me. I dunno why). Sometimes I think she knows her name, or at least seems to respond to Fiona and Boobaloo. But then other times I think she's just responding to me talking to her and I could call her anything and she'd look at me lol.
