With intent and understanding, both used a couple of words at 6 months. Our youngest said "dada hi!" when DH went to get her out of her crib, around 6 or 7 mos!

L has said "mama" "dada" etc since about 7 months, but only uses "mama" and "ha" with meaning now at 9 months. Sometimes I think she knows the meaning of dada, but not sure.

Maybe around 10 months. He had 2 words until about 15 months, then it was like a switch and he really took off in picking up different words.

Dada at 8/9 months but I think it was mostly just babbling. At 12 months, he started saying "truck" "up" and "uh oh" but didn't say much else.

Now he's 2 and is never quiet.

Either 8 mo or not yet, depending on how you count! At 8 mo she started saying mamamamamama and shortly thereafter, dadadadadada. At almost 18 mo, that is still all she says! She does say them to mean us (she mostly only says them if one of us leaves the room then she cries at the stairs "mamamamamamamamamamama, etc"). But she never just says "mama" or "dada" and she won't say them on command nor when we ask "who am I? who is that?" (but if I say "where's mama" she'll point to me).

So yea I dunno how much that really counts. Obv I'll be asking her ped at her appt in a few weeks about all this since she's a bit late with the talking by any measure.

DS - 9 months, the dogs name. Baba came soon after, no Mama until 15 months though!

DD - 10 months, hat. She hasn't stopped talking since, at 19 months she's stringing 6 word sentences.

My house is so noisy.

8 months--uh-oh. Uses it correctly, loves to say it all the time.

9 months--says dada when daddy walks in, but we're still not convinced she knows that is his name (more like it's the sound he is always saying to her!) Says mama when crying, but I think it's a coincidence that happens to stab me in the heart. Waved bye-bye and said, "buh" a few times, so I'm almost convinced she knows what it means!

@sorrycharlie: dd said dada and baba (bottle)?around 6m then within the next few months said mama too but I don't count those as real words because I don't think she used them as real words. She said "duck" at nearly 12m (while pointing at a rubber duck.)

Dada was my son's first word at 8 months. Mama came about 3 weeks later. At 14 months old, that's still all he says. Mama is only when he's upset. Otherwise it's dada all day, everyday!

B started babbling dada around 9 months and using it intentionally a few weeks later. He has slowly but steadily added new words since then. A started saying dog maybe around 10 months? And dada and occasionally Blake by 12 months. She didn't have any other words (including mama) until later - 15 months maybe? At almost 18 months she probably has 20 words or so.

E has been saying "Uh oh" for a good while now, maybe since 7ish months? She uses it correctly AND incorrectly, because she just likes to say it. Ha! Every now and then she'll also say her version of "thank you" (ka-ku), but not consistently. Everything else is just babbling--although I think she's close to having her "dadadadada" mean something. ;)

C doesn't babble as much as she did and he just screeches and makes dinosaur sounds at this point!
