We started around 11 months and after that, she messed with her food only intermittently for a few months. We would listen when she said, all done and put her down so she didn't have the opportunity to mess around. We use it as LO's personal 'to go' plate when we eat out in restaurants, picnics as well as her twice a week daycare.

at 18 months because he was starting daycare at 21 months, and i wanted to get him ready to eat on his own. he has always needed someone beside him coaxing him to eat though, to this day. he will be 3 in dec.

My oldest (then 2.5 y.o.) started when he started preschool b/c it was the opportune time to start with bentos. It took a couple of weeks but he eventually started enjoying it and eating most of his lunch. I think once she can eat finger food you can get a smaller bento and start there. Maybe you can start at home to "train" her to eat out of a bento? I think that's what I did to get my son used to it. But I only did it for a week before he started school. We were also working on him eating on his own so it was a rough start for us!

I'm planning for an upcoming trip to grandma's house and I'm getting distracted by all the cute bento boxes! LO's still too young now, but she'll be on solids when we visit so I'm looking up weaning gear. I'm imagining us picnicking ... her with her little bento box! But something tells me she'll be too young for it when we visit.

At what age did your LO start eating out of a lunchbox or bento box on their own without losing (or throwing) any of the pieces?
