She started going down much easier around 3 months and now at 16 weeks she goes down with much less assistance from me. You seem to have a pretty good groove already, I'm sure it will happen in time.

Around 6 months. However, it hasn't been consistant since then. We've had to wore on it constantly over the past 4.5 months.

I think it was around 5 months. We luckily never had to nap train. He just decided one day that he didn't want to be rocked to sleep anymore and found it far more fun to play in his crib for 10 minutes then fall asleep. He's been a good napper since.

I started nap training LO at around 4 months, but it wasn't until about 5 months that he started consistently going down for naps more easily.

At almost 6 months things got easier with naps. It was ONLY the swing naps til like 4+ months but the swing + swaddle worked!

@Kemma: no, not yet though that's a thought. I read to him as part of our activity time but he gets so squirmy if I hold him (constantly wants to nurse even if he just did) and seems too stimulated if I interact with him at all while I'm in the process of getting him down. He doesn't get quiet or transfixed or anything when I read to him other times -- just his regular fidgets and some smiles :)

I think it was around two months that LO and I really got the hang of naps. I got so much better at reading her tired signs and she slowly learnt how to self soothe.

FWIW we still have days where I have to feed or rock LO down at five months but about two weeks ago when we swaddle weaned I started leaving a stuffed toy in her cot so she could chat and hold it as she went to sleep and woke up.

Just as a thought have you tried reading to LO when you put him down for a nap?

Ok thanks, I have that book so I'll have to bone up :) I feel like having him in daycare is going to make all this so much harder and I'm picturing getting a kid at the end of the day who hasn't slept at all and therefore won't sleep all night.

@ladyfingers: We nap-trained at the same time as sleep-training when LO was 3.5 months. It was hectic and stressful but in the end it was worth it. I followed Weissbluth's method ("Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child"), which calls for crying-it-out. You put LO in her crib awake but drowsy and allow for baby to learn to fall asleep on her own. It also calls for allowing LO to cry for up to an hour. The main point is for LO to remain in her crib for an hour and to put her down awake but drowsy.

We had to nap-train LO and it took a whole month before she would go down without crying. It gets better, truly it does, and every baby is different.

LO is 6 weeks and I follow his sleep cues so roughly every hour I'm putting him down for a nap. As soon as he yawns/gets quiet or rubs his eyes (usually after I miss a couple yawns) I swaddle him, put him in the rock n play, turn on the white noise machine, and rock. Sometimes I have to shush and add a paci. Usually this takes anywhere from 10-30 minutes, most of it him closing his eyes then opening them again over and over. I feel like this is so much work each day and especially when sometimes he only stays asleep for 30 minutes.

When was it easier for you? And if your LO always went down easily... Please don't respond, I kind of hate you. (Jk... Sorta.)

I'm nervous too about daycare in 6 weeks because they will not do all this. Although I know the developmental leap between 6 and 12 weeks is probably a lot.
