Around 3 months I could get him to entertain himself enough to get a shower or do some dishes (well, sometimes dishes). He was either under play gym or in bouncy with toy bar. We got some new 'baby containers' recently and now we use them a ton! The jumparoo/bouncer helps us so much. He loves it and will play/watch us cook/eat for like 30 minutes! Even longer kf we talk to him, etc., while eating/working. We use a bouncer in the kitchen, an exersaucer in the living room, and a super seat in the breakfast nook (our parents bought the jumper and the exersucef as Christmas gifts, the super seat we are borrowing). I kinda hate putting him in them but as an SAHM I need the extra hand to fold laundry, make calls, etc. I still try to engage him even if he's in them though, well not always but a lot of the time. Today he watched us take down the Christmas tree and wrangle it through the back door (it took us forever to get that thing down!)

Mine was better as a baby honestly. Now she's more aware of how fun we are to play with and doesn't give me much of a break at home. Hardest part of parenting for me.

She just turned 10 months and is finally starting to play on her own. It's such a nice break.

We're working on independent play at 4.5 months with the help of our daycare. He goes in the activity gym or Bumbo for those times.

LO (8 mo) has been able to play by herself for a long time now. However, it was a short amount of time in the beginning and now can probably do it only 2-3 times a day.

DD is 9 months old, and she will play by herself. Just not when I actually want her to. Whenever I need her to entertain herself for a while, that's when she decides to be super clingy.

My LO is only 7 weeks but I make a point of being sure that every day she has some active awake time where she's by herself (in her play gym, swing, etc). I'm hoping that this way when she goes to day care at 4 months she'll be ok without one on one attention all day.

My LO (10.5 months) isn't very good at entertaining herself :( She'll play with her books/toys for about 5-10 minutes but then inevitably crawls over to me, wanting me to hold her/entertain her/play with her. It'd be nice if she could play by herself for at least a little longer so I can get some stuff done around the house!!
