Around 15-16 months LO started to get into pretending and imaginative play. For months now, she has been really into putting her baby dolls (or any toy) down for a nap. She lays blankets over them, pats them, sings to them and says, "Night night!" She also likes to pretend to cook and eat food.

Sometime around when he turned 2. He's 28 months now and it is SO fun to watch him come up with different scenarios and act them out. So fun. This is definitely the best age so far!

My daughter started pretty early, like she would play pretend with her dolls and tea set by herself starting around 15 months and it just took off from there. She loves making her toys have conversations and makes them do whatever she does, it is my favorite thing to watch! :3

DS is 20 months and starting around 18 months he started getting really imaginative, like pretending his cracker that he was eating was a car, or pretending to pump lotion and put "gel" in his hair like DH does in the morning lol.

I can't wait til he starts doing more of the stuff listed here though, so cute!

@travellingbee: I do too! I just sit back and watch. LO will also say toys are crying and bring them to me to ask "are you okay?" and then give a kiss. And if there are two similar toys, one is the mommy and one is the baby

Right before two and it's adorable. He puts toys to sleep and says "night night", he turns food into animals (cheese dinosaurs are very popular lately), Legos can be anything from boats and airplanes to animals. All his toys "fly." He pretends to "paint" with his utensils, etc. It's such a cute phase!

@Smurfette: just all of a sudden he is doing it constantly. In the span of a hour his little garden rake was a microphone for singing Let it go, a guitar, a vacuum, and a ticket puncher for the train ("tickets peeze!-- omg so cute) He's just so funny right now!

She started right before 2, but she doesn't do it a lot. It helps when we suggest things like did you feed baby. Then she wants to feed her juice, milk, and water. Then kisses and hugs for baby to go nite nite.
We got a Melissa and Doug cutting birthday cake so she loves to sing Happy Birthday and blow the candles out now. Then cuts the cake for everyone. It's adorable!

Just a little before she turned 2. We noticed she started playing pretend with her diapers-goofy went pooey was her new favorite game. At her 2 year check up, it was something her ped specifically said they look for kids to be doing at this age. And as of two weeks ago, she's very into her play kitchen!

Right about the time he turned 2, I remember him using these fish toys in the tub and having them "talk" to each other and swim around to "school". It was so cool to see him really play! He also started "calling" people on the pretend cellphone and holding conversations.

My DS is 25 months and has really had a mental growth spurt in the last month or so. He plays pretend constantly and is very creative. For example, tonight he was pretending that his black beans were family members. Then he was putting all of his trains into a play barn and laying them down and turned off the light. He said they were sleeping. Then "woke" them up. :) It's all the time with a new story.it's so cute and fun that he likes pretending like this now! When did you notice this change in your LO's play?
