Around 5 1/2 months. I would try to return him to his back but he would just flip again almost immediately. I finally embraced it.

3.5 months or so when she learned to roll. The first night was torture. She would roll to her tummy, wake up and scream. I'd flip her on her back and repeat. The second night I'd go in and comfort her while on her tummy but wouldn't flip her (she knew how to roll both ways but just refused?) She's been a tummy sleeper ever since. I know she's exhausted if I put her down (I always put her down on her back) and she stays on her back!

It was a great way to take care of swaddle weaning and her sleep was awesome after! Until the 4 month regression that hit around 4.5 months...

So so good to hear that this is around the same age as all of your los! And such a relief to hear that so many of them slept better after being able to roll onto their tums, I've been dreading swaddle weaning!

I would leave her be. My son started rolling over consistently around 6 months and that's when we swaddle weaned and he naturally started sleeping on his side or belly. His sleep has really improved since all of this started!

7 months or so...we swaddled and did the Merlin Suit...at 7-8 months each of them started rolling over while in the suit, so we swaddle weaned. It wasn't my favorite time of their lives.

DS not until late, like 10 or 11 months, but that's because he would sleep on his side (starting around 6 months).
DD started around 5 months, when she could roll there, I let her do it.

Our pediatrician said as soon as they are rolling to their stomach on their own, it is fine to leave them. No need to be rolling them back over so I think you are good to go!

i would embrace this new stage and let her sleep how she wants. when LO started rolling on his own, we took him out of the swaddle and didn't move him if he rolled onto his tummy (unless he was stuck and crying).

Once he got used to it, sleeping on his side/stomach was a great way for B to put himself to sleep and take better naps. He seems much happier. We had ditched the swaddle before he learned to roll over, but that was a happy coincidence. I just got tired of fighting him to put the darn thing on.

At his 4 month appointment, the pediatrician said he can sleep in whatever position he puts himself in. I still put him down on his back, but then he goes wherever he wants.

She rolled from her back to tummy at 3 months and within a few weeks I think I started going in to find her on her tummy sometimes. It's a little scary at first but I am used to it now. Sometimes her face isn't even entirely to the side which makes me nervous but what can I do? She is 4.5 months and most nights she will sleep on her side or tummy.

Sometimes being on her tummy makes her mad though and she will cry, and even when I roll her back over to her back she immediately rolls back to her tummy and cries again. Silly baby. You can't stop them once they decide they want to roll over.

@nana87: I think around the age that your LO is now. Our pediatrician told us once she was rolling, it was fine to let her sleep on her belly. Honestly I don't know how I would have stopped her! Ever since she learned to roll and we stopped swaddling, she's slept on her belly with her little behind up in the air.

6 1/2 months with my first and 5 1/2 months with my second.

Both times I went with it because sleep improved drastically. We never swaddled with my first, but the sleep sack swaddle is magic with my second- on rough nights I still use it sometimes, sure it's not recommended, but you have to make choices of what works best for your family. He's a rolling machine with excellent head control, so I am less concerned than with my first who had problems with rolling and head control.

Lo will be 5 months old next week. She started rolling over from back to front a couple weeks ago but it wasn't until yesterday that she started rolling regularly, and now she rolls within a couple minutes of lying on her back. And, she has started rolling over in her crib--eek! On Sunday night she woke up shrieking because she rolled over while swaddled (soooo scary! we hadn't weaned out of the swaddle yet because she hadn't rolled regularly...oops, parent-fail! no more swaddling with her arms in!), and then this morning when she woke up she was on her tummy as well. Normally we nurse/bottle-feed or rock to sleep, but today for her nap she wasn't going down after a long time rocking so I thought I'd try putting her in her crib drowsy-but-awake. Of course, she rolled immediately, but rather than rolling her back, I patted her butt for a couple minutes and she went OUT. She woke up around 45 mins into her nap but I patted again and she went right back to sleep. Now, she's been asleep about 1 hour and 15 mins (not counting the part in the middle where I re-patted her back to sleep)--which is an amazing nap for her! Seriously, yesterday all her naps were either on my lap or in the ergo, so this is incredible. But I feel kind of guilty for letting her sleep on her tummy!

When did you start letting your lo sleep on his or her tummy? Should I be rolling her onto her back, or just embrace this new lovely tummy sleeping? Of course, the butt-patting may never work again, but it's so much easier than rocking her forever!
