Her first two words together was the day before her second birthday. She was slow to develop with regards to speech.</p> <p>Lorelei was putting two words together at about 14/15 months and now at 17 months is able to get most points across pretty clearly. </p> <p>Intelligence-wise I feel the girls are on a pretty level playing field, but Lorelei is able to express more things at a younger age so it is easier in some ways to see her mind working (if that makes sense). Like last night she had blueberries and said, "Mama-- pattern. Lita pattern" to which I absentmindedly responded, "yes, good job. Patterns are nice aren't they?" only to look over as she pointed; "big, little, big, little, big," and started putting another small blueberry in the line. I bet Ellie might have been able to do the same thing at her age, but she wasn't a talker, so I doubt I'd have noticed. BUT... He caught up quickly and started speaking in sentences after he turned 2. She had a decent number of words and signs by 15 and 18 months. She could say things like "all done" and "more please" at that time but I don't really count those as sentences since they are sort of the same idea. </p> <p>She was able to sign "daddy work" around 16/17 months. I too am curious what averages look like, although I do believe it can be a pretty broad window anywhere from 14-26 months. </p> <p>I have read that blabber mouths ( like my husband and I) tend to have earlier more frequent yappers. Same oes for children who are read aloud to often. I'll tell him we need to put his shoes on so we can go outside and he'll bring his shoes (well usually just one, lol) and go to the front door. Or when I tell him to go to his room to go to bed he'll walk to his crib. </p> <p>This is all pretty new for us, but seeing him start to grasp language more is really exciting to watch, and I'm eager for him to be able to actually talk to us. </p> <p>When was your LO able to string together sentences? </p>
