@Sammyfab: that's a fantastic update! Go baby sammyfab! It's amazing to me how a baby goes from not being able to do something one day and totally being able to do it the next. It's like magic! Thanks for giving me hope :)

@NerdBee: update...my LO crawled on his hands and knees today! He went after my dog, a mum mum cracker and a potato chip! Haha. He is cautious and only takes a 4-5 'steps' at a time but he couldn't even do that yesterday! I worried a lot around 6-7 months because of the same reasons you are worried now, but I hope this gives you some reassurance and lessens your worry a bit. :)

@caffeinated: only 2 days apart! Baby nerd was born on April 10.

I know! I've been reading on other sites about babies creepin and scooting at 5/6 months and here my LO has done none of that at 7 months. I thought maybe I wasn't doing enough to help him and from these responses it seems that I have not!

After reading your post, I tried putting my hands against his kicking feet and he totally pushed himself forward! It was so cute. I'll be doing alot of the suggested activities with him from now on and hopefully he'll catch on quick :)

@NerdBee: Okay, i'm glad i'm not the only one who was a bit worried. I think our LOs are days apart (mine turned 7 months yesterday) and she'll do the same thing with her legs and hands (kicking them in frustration). This instructor at Gymboree said that it's a good sign that she'll be crawling soon, and to put your hands against her feet so she can propel herself forward.

right before he hit 7 months he was on his hands and knees rocking back and forth, he could "worm crawl" at 7 months but hadn't mastered actually crawling. Only 1-2 days after he turned 8 mos he started crawling!

@NerdBee: My boy has a gigantic head, it took him some time to learn to navigate with it. I have friends with younger babies who started crawling much earlier, Cam just wasn't ready yet. Every baby has their own time frame.

Definitely start the baby proofing now, you will be glad when he is into everything! Organizing wires has been our biggest challenge, that and bracing heavy furniture and the TV to the walls.

She started army crawling around 5 months but it took until like 7- 1/2 months to do the real hands and knees crawling. She was soooooooo mobile after that. Right after she turned 8 months she figured out how to pull herself up and cruise and climb on things. She went from barely going anywhere to going everywhere in just a couple weeks.

@lemondrop: wow thanks! Your timeline is very encouraging! I thought baby nerd was slow with crawling but maybe its still early because he just turned 7 months a few days ago.

Yikes! I haven't bought anything to babyproof the house yet. I should probably get on that.

7 months he started army crawling, he could slowly move across the room and spin in circles.

8-9 months he figured out sitting, scooting, and fast army crawling, and the position for the "real" crawling.

9.5 months he woke up from an afternoon nap and suddenly had the full crawl figured out. Around the same time he started pulling up to stand on me, the coffee table, and crib.

It happens so quick, he is showing us what we missed baby proofing. Now he is into everything. We lined up toys and baby puffs to entice him to move in a specific direction. It will happen before you know it- one day they are suddenly ready.

@Sammyfab: yay for little sammyfab!!

When Baby Nerd is tired of sitting he will either flop directly backwards or on his side and then roll onto belly. Thanks or the tips! It gives me lots of ideas on how to work with him to encourage his development.

@NerdBee: I thought my LO had more interest standing than crawling too but just in the past couple of weeks he's made major gains with crawling! He's been more willing to go from sitting to tummy in the past 2-3 weeks and he went from tummy to sitting for the first time last Wednesday. Since then he constantly goes from sitting to knees to tummy to knees to sitting...

Babies progress pretty methodically so keep encouraging your LO to go from sitting onto his tummy. Initially my LO would flop right onto his belly but now he goes onto his knees. Also, when getting him off his belly, help him get into sitting by lifting his belly so he's on all fours and tucking one leg under so he can swing the other leg around and push himself up with his arms to sit. It's all about repetition so they can get the motor planning down.

@Lozza: that's interesting! DS shows a lot more interest in standing than being on hands and knees. Maybe he'll be like your LO and cruise before crawling.

LO started a little bit of the army crawling around 7 months, but didn't really start solidly crawling to get around till almost 10 months. He was always WAY more interested in walking- he was cruising long before he was really crawling, and he took his first steps right at 11 months.

@NerdBee: She creeps/scoots. She doesn't fully army crawl yet. We got her to stay on her hands and knees just by doing it all the time. We would just bend her knees under her and encouraging her to stay up. We just tried over and over and eventually she started staying up.

My LO is 8.5 months and he's not crawling yet but he's close. We just had an occupational therapy consult about this yesterday because at 6 months he still hated tummy time with a flying passion.

The OT recommended holding and guiding his calves when he's on his hands and knees to encourage being on all fours and forward movement. Even since yesterday he's been taking a few crawling 'steps' at a time.

C is 7 months and we're on hands and knees and rocking back and forth, but no crawling. We've been putting her on her hands and knees (shes not super good at getting there herself) and getting on the floor with her and encouraging her to come to us. We've also been putting her favorite toys down just out of her reach so she'll try to get to them. We're getting there. I'm not worried. Crawling is a 7-9 months skill, so she's on track.

My LO is 7 months and has not started to crawl yet. I think he wants to move though because he will kick his legs and wave his arms when he's on his belly and cry in frustration after a while.

When did your LO start to crawl? Did you do any activities with him/her to encourage crawling?
