My son still prefers a spoon over a fork and he's 2! I think I first introduced a spoon and fork at around 14 or 15 months. He would waaaaay rather use a spoon than a fork.

DD was around 15/16 months? She still prefers a spoon (or her hands) for most foods.

I think we started the fork at around one but it was the Take and Toss kind which is more like a spork. We started a real fork closer to 15 months.
DD at 27m still has a slight problem with when to stab vs when to scoop but part of that is based upon our daycare only allowing spoons so everything she eats there is scooped.

Only recently have we started to use spoons and forks at home, and my LO is 14 months old. I'm too scared of messes and think he eats better when I feed him. Of course as soon as I give him the freedom to do it on his own, he was ecstatic. He played with the fork and learned how to stab and put food in his mouth within 2 eating sessions.

LO is 15 months, and we introduced the spoon a few months ago, but we're just newly at the point where I can give him a spoon and a little bowl of cottage cheese and expect him to actually use the spoon to get some of the cottage cheese in his mouth. He likes using a fork too but I have to stab the food with it- he can't really do that himself.
I started by putting LO's hand around the spoon and guiding it to his mouth- if you start doing that, you'll see whether your DD is interested in it and/or picks it up easily. If not, wait and try again in a few weeks.

About 15 months. She loves stabbing things. She also does well with cereal and a grown up spoon.

LO is almost 15 months and I give him spoons to play with during dinner but he doesn't know how to eat with a spoon or fork. we've recently shown him that he can put food on the spoon and it from it, which he gets a kick out of, but doesn't seem to have the dexerity to do it himself. I guess we'll keep practicing!

Hah, we visited a friend when LO was 13 months old, and my friend acted surprised that LO wasn't using a fork yet.

We did start giving her one around 14 months (she's 15 mos now). She does pretty well with a spoon, but she has a hard time stabbing things with a fork.

Mine is 14 months old and has been using a spoon since 11 months and a fork for the last month. He even stabbed the gnocchi last night. I think it depends on your child. He eats more with a utensil in the other hand.

Mine is 18 months and he's been using a fork for maybe the last 2-3 months. For fun - it's still pretty messy! But sometimes he'll dare to eat something he wouldn't eat otherwise just because he's proud of being able to use the fork. :)
