DS1 (5 in March!) has preschool during his naptime 2 days a week, but still naps 2+ hours the remaining 5 days! 🙌🏼 Kid likes his sleep! :silly:

DD started kindergarten a month after she turned 4 and was still napping. From September to December she and a few other students had a nap at school for 30 minutes. She continued 2 hour naps on the weekends at home. She ended up dropping them over the Xmas holidays at almost 4.5. Our son is just over 2 and also loves his naps. I hope he continues until Kindergarten as well. He’ll be 3 when he starts school with his November birthday.

Like @krispi: we just stopped naps over the holidays, and he turns 3 tmrw (!) He wasn't napping well and he was fighting night sleep - would take 1-2 hours to fall asleep while banging on the walls and yelling, and then multiple night wakings. Now he has consolidated his sleep to basically 12 hours overnight, 7:30p-7:30p. If we go for a drive anytime 2:30 or later, though, he will most likely fall asleep - sometimes in as little as 5 minutes! That sucks. We try to avoid it or I try to sit back there to keep him awake. He's supposed to have at least 45 minutes of quiet time daily alone in his room but I don't think the in-laws (babysitters) really adhere to that very much.

I voted before 2 because naps started to disappear at about 22mos. He still napped about half of days until 2.5, then once or twice a week until around 3. In the last 8 months he’s probably only napped 4-5x, all during illnesses.

@Mrs. Turtle: I feel you! I cried so many days when I realized my kid was done napping before 2. (And both my husband and bil stopped before 2 so likely our second will also)
No nap early sucks so so much

@lady baltimore: your kid is my kid!!!! And they're a month apart. if he naps, bedtime is a shitshow but 2 days without a nap he is a total exhausted turd. He'll even say,
I'm so tired!!" . He definitely needs a nap still but I don't know how to maneuver bedtime?! ugh!

Oh man. I'm so jealous of you guys that have 3-4 year olds that nap.

O stopped napping in her bed at 22 months. Complete refusal. Everyone said to keep trying, that it was just a regression. Nope. We have done car naps several days per week ever since (she turned 3 in Nov). We have just gotten used to scheduling our days around her afternoon drive. If we don't go out in the afternoon, she has quiet time at home. She's fallen asleep in quiet time twice, ever. I miss the days of that break in the afternoon. :crying:

LO turned 3 in December. She started preschool in September at 2y9m, and has never napped there (2 days/week). For the last month or so, her naps on non-school days have been getting increasingly erratic. On days when she does nap, bedtime is a fight, but she is exhausted after two days in a row without a nap. At least once a week, she will nap for 3+ hours. Our routines are also not set up for an early bedtime, so I am willing to stick with every-other-day naps for as long as we can swing them.

DD is almost 4 and stopped napping on the weekends a couple months ago, we just kept forgetting to put her down. She’s fine without it most days. During the week she has nap time at school 3 days a week but I don’t know if she sleeps most days. Twice a week she falls asleep in the car on the way home from my parents for about an hour. So she’s still transitioning to no naps. I miss the weekend naps but it’s nice not getting stuck at home with dualing naps Between her and the baby.

@pachamama: Oh no! my girls are 20 months apart and my oldest is about 28 months old. I just went through a nap strike and it lasted about 1.5 weeks. Still a bit ongoing. I think its separation anxiety. I'm hoping it means her naps aren't over because my only saving grace is when big girl and little baby nap at the same time during the afternoon! Good luck to you!!

We just stopped naps over the holidays. My daughter is not quite 3.5. She wasn't napping well at school, plus she was fighting sleep at night. We would put her to bed with her normal routine, but it was taking her up to 2 hours to fall asleep. As an experiement, we tried dropping naps at home while we had some time off over the holidays, and she started going to sleep at night again! We've moved her bedtime up a little to account for no naps, and she has adjusted pretty well. Since a lot of the kids in her daycare class still nap, we do make her do quiet time in bed instead of a nap. Some days at school, she'll fall asleep the last 20-30 minutes of quiet time, so she still naps a tad, but she never does that at home unless we're driving in the car for a while.

My son is almost 3.5 and naps I would say 40% of the time. He is a wreck by about 4pm with no nap and much happier/easier when he naps. Usually by 5pm he's laying on the floor sobbing asking to go to sleep. He rarely naps at school. At home, it's probably 50/50. I feel like he is constantly sick with a cold so I think he needs it.

We forced DS to drop it at 3.5 because it was messing with bedtime and overnight sleep. I'm an early bedtime evangelist so I'd rather have that then a nap.

DS is 3.5 and he still naps usually 4-5 times a week. He could probably drop napping completely but I’ve noticed if he goes a couple days in a row without a nap then it catches up to him. If he doesn’t nap then he has quiet play time in his room because I stay home and by the afternoon we need a break from each other. I plan on keeping that up for as long as possible.

My DD stopped ALL naps by 7 mos old. (Yup, you read that correctly... It was terrible!!!) She (at nearly 11) will only nap if she is extremely ill. My DS (now 4), on the other hand, still naps anywhere from 1-3 hours daily. Both are sound night sleepers. 🤔 It is amazing how different children from the same genetics can have such vastly differing sleep requirements. 😴

My 3.5 y/o naps every day at preschool from 1-3 (they said it takes a while for him to fall asleep.) He goes to sleep at 8 and wakes up around 7. The weekend is much more erratic. He either wont nap at all or sleeps for 3 hours. 🤷‍♀️

LO1 didn't get the hang of naps until age 3. I remember before that being ready to throw in the towel completely. She napped until age 5. We stopped at 5 because bedtime was getting late and we were a few months away from Kindergarten. Now in K she probably needs naps more than ever but at least bedtime is a cinch
LO2 is 3.5 and still going strong with naps. He is starting to struggle with bedtime though. It's 9pm and I still hear him.

DS dropped his nap around 3. He was taking over 2 hours (sometimes closer to 3!!) to fall asleep at night. We dropped it and he is now asleep by 7 and sleeps 12 full hours. We just started at a new preschool and he lays down with the nappers for 30 minutes and they let him get up to read quietly with the older kids after his rest time. He’s in a mixed age Montessori school.

It was shortly after 3.5. To be exact I think he was 3y8mo. We had many phases where it seemed like he might be done but we stuck to our guns and he went back to it. That happened somewhere between 2.5-3 for sure. We just had to tweak his awake time (he needed a little more time between morning wakeup and nap) and once we adjusted that nap time and made bedtime slightly later, he napped for another 6+ months.
Went from 7am wakeup, 12:30-2.30 nap, 7pm bedtime to 7am wakeup, 1:30-3:30 nap, 8pm bedtime.
Once he dropped the nap all together, bedtime is back to 7pm and I have to say it’s glorious. I forgot how good that early bedtime was.

It's been coming for a while, but I just finally accepted that my recently turned 3 year old doesn't nap. She still does quiet time in her room, but not in the crib, and occasionally falls asleep, but it's rare. She definitely could still use it some days but I try to move bedtime a little earlier if I can.

Leading up to this for the last 6 months or so she's been skipping nap in her crib more often than not. Some days she would happily play with her toys in her crib, some she would scream. So for the last week or so we just let her be in her room for that time and she has an OK to Wake clock, and she fights it a lot less. Big sister is 5 and still does quiet time in her room too. Quiet time alone in their rooms is a life saver for me. Maybe you can do that when he used to nap?

DS was 5.5! He stopped napping most weekends this past summer but still napped at daycare. This made bedtime hard during the week. He’d be awake in bed for up to a couple hours. He started kindergarten this fall so no naps at all, although some days he could use them. His bedtime started to be earlier and he generally falls asleep quickly now. For the first couple months he slept quite a bit later as well but now he’s pretty consistent 7:30-6:30.

Oldest I made her drop it at 3.5 because bedtime was too late. That made bedtime 7pm and she was fine with no nap! But would definitely have kept going if I let her, she wasn’t fighting it.

Second stopped right around 3. He got too hard to put down (would often only fall asleep at the end of when I wanted him to sleep) and bedtime was a big fight so I stopped trying to nap. He stopped napping at home but continued to nap at 2 day a week preschool or occasional camp and I hated those days because bedtime went so late. However he kind of sort of needs it still (just turned four) and we get by on car naps here and there since school pickups define our schedule. They both have an earlier bedtime still and it’s a priority to keep that when I sah and solo a lot.

She can push through and skip it if necessary but is generally a mess by mid afternoon. We have gone through multiple stages where I thought she might be dropping it but we pushed through and she always went back to napping.

DD is almost 4 and naps 1.5 hours at daycare. If we can manage to get her to nap on the weekend, she will sleep for as much as 3 hours. And she desperately needs it. On the weekend days she doesn't nap, she is quite grouchy.
