@lemondrop: He has done great so far! He fussed a little Monday night and I ended up rocking him. He hasn't let me rock him in a long time so I didn't mind so much. :) He slept until 8:45 yesterday morning. Nap yesterday went great! He didn't make a peep. He slept for about 2 hours or so. Last night was good too! As far as I can tell, he's sleeping in the bed and hasn't fallen out.

Thanks for all of the input! I decided to wait on the pillow because I don't think he'll use it. We have a full size mattress and may use that for a floor bed. If we do that, we can use DS's crib for baby #2 (due in October!).

At 25 months, LO is still in his crib and I have no plans to transition anytime in the foreseeable future! LO can easily climb out, but only does it when we're in the room (i.e., we'll go in there after he wakes up in the morning, and he'll stand up in his crib and tell us that he'll get out by himself, and then he'll climb out. He has never done it without us around- he's generally really easy to get down for naps and bedtime, and we go get him pretty promptly after he wakes up). I really, really like having him contained- knowing LO, if he was alone and uncontained, he'd totally walk around pulling over his bookshelf and slamming the glider into the wall and banging on the sliding mirrored closet doors. I seriously plan on keeping him in that crib until he can no longer physically fit in there :)
We're expecting LO#2 in October but I'm fine with buying a second crib if it comes to that.

We transitioned at 16 months bc she started climbing out of her crib even with the mattress all the way on the floor. We skipped the toddler bed and went straight to a queen (took it from the guest room) and it was NOT a smooth process...

PS- I just looooved the IG photo under the door! It cracked us up last night, knowing we'll be facing that sooner rather than later!

Just recently transitioned DD to a toddler bed at 25 months because she was constantly climbing out of her crib. She would routinely open the door and walk out of the room so we had to lock her in. Now she falls asleep on the floor in front of the door every night and we have to put her in the bed afterwards. Hopefully she will learn to fall asleep in bed soon because its heartbreaking to find her on the floor.

We transitioned at 20 months and were really surprised how few times C has gotten out of bed. In the beginning we would tell him when we put him down that he is not to get out of bed without us and that he needs to call for us to come get him. We always shut his door but don't lock it and we too do not have a video monitor. There have been two nights where we had to hold the door closed until he gave up and put himself back in bed but that was actually a few months into the change and he just didn't want to go to bed at all. He has gotten to where he asks us to sit next to him when we put him down so one of us does for about 2 minutes and then we get up and leave regardless of if he is asleep or not and he accepts that. There has only been two nights that he had gotten out of bed and come to find us in the middle of the night. It's actually been a very smooth transition for us.

We're going to switch C to a twin at 2. We're moving our stuff home shortly after her 2nd birthday and I'd like to just not unpack the crib, so it's nice and boxed up for us to break it out when we need it again.

@Sweet T: we just switched the inside knob with the outside knob! It's funny bc she knows we don't lock for naps so she'll let herself out after she wakes from one. At night she assumes it's locked and calls out for me from the opening under the door.

She's been sleeping with a pillow for close to a year now. She still moves around a lot so the pillow isn't used all night, but she likes having it on her bed.

@Sweet T: when I said "lock" I meant me standing at the door holding the knob so that she could not turn it! Very hi-tech. No, they do not really need pillows. She asked for it one day and that's when I got her one.

@Sweet T: After that post, we ended up switching out that daybed to another similar one from IKEA (but we found it for cheaper off craigslist) - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30080316/ - Looks very similar to our original one, but I liked that it had 3 drawers on the bottom!

Good luck with your transition - I was really nervous about it too, but the transition was easier than I imagined. She took to it like a fish to water... hopefully that'll be the case for you too!

Update: After posting, DS fell asleep on the floor! I took the front piece off of his crib (it's convertible) but the rail we bought doesn't fit! We bought the smallest rail they had at BRU! It's basically a mini day bed right now. I folded up a fluffy comforter and put it next to the bed in case he rolls off tonight. I'm kind of dreading this transition! DH is working so I'll be toughing it out alone.

Should I give him a pillow too??

@chopsuey119: @Andrea: I don't think he can twist the doorknob yet(!) but we did but the knob covers just in case. I wish we could lock his door from the outside!

@Rubies: seriously, we could be twins! LO #2 is due at the end of October. I thought DS would still be in the crib. I thought we were safe because he never tried escaping before! We were going to buy a second convertible crib! I think we're going to try to get a twin bed for DS and use the crib for the baby. Thanks for the link!

@Mrs. High Heels: I love the daybed you got for her!!

We did it at 22-months from crib to twin bed. I wrote a post about our experience -it's somewhere around here! We also locked the door for the first 3 nights and after that she got it and we didn't need to anymore.

GAH! I'm totally in a similar boat. LO is almost 22 months and just starting yesterday has learned to escape from her sleep sack. Luckily, she's still too short to climb out of her crib but she does the climbing motion (trying to get one leg up)...I wanted to keep her in her crib until the summer (LO#2 is arriving early October)...We might have to reconsider.

At 2, we switched from crib to a twin bed. I think she was fine the first day because she was so excited about her big girl bed. On the second day, the novelty had already worn off and she wouldn't stay in bed so I did the same as Chopsuey -- locked the door! She went to sleep and has ever since. We only locked it that one day. We also have a video monitor.

We always had DD on a floor bed, but I would always stay with her until she fell asleep. She's finally sleeping on her own and falling asleep on her own because we ended up locking the door from the outside. We have a video monitor though..

DS is 20 months old and has always been great about sleeping in his crib. These days, he won't sleep anywhere else!

In the last week, he has figured out how to get out of his sleep sack and escape is crib. We went and bought a toddler rail last night but haven't put it on the bed yet. He slept fine last night with no escapes. He got out this morning. I've been fighting with him for the last hour and a half to take a nap. He keeps getting out!!

So, I'll probably be putting the toddler rail up before bed tonight. If you've made the switch, how do you get your LO to stay in the bed? Help please!!!!

ETA: Do you shut the door all the way? We don't have a video monitor and I'm worried about doing this. I'd like to be able to check on him without having to open the door (it sticks).
