My 3.5 year old doesn't really ask. Kinda weird! I guess I don't give her a lot of treats. Just mainly regular food!

My kid is crazy. He cries for apples, nannis (bananas), buddies (sun butter buddy snacks). But he doesn't get much candy or sweets so he asks for what he gets. He came home from a birthday party on Sunday and hasn't asked for any of the candy he got.

I'm kind of looking forward to hear her ask for dessert. Poor girl hasn't had any sweets because of her allergies. She has dried fruit and dates (basically sugar) on occasion, but still. It'll be nice to just eat something "bad" and be able to share it with her.

@pinkcupcake: Luckily for us, thank goodness, we're not huge ice cream eaters at home so DD doesn't know the existence of a freezer! :)

@mrbee: Yeah, he will. DD is such a daddy's girl that when her face lights up at the sound of the words "ice cream" he can't help himself. But for real, if I tell him to stop he will. Problem solved! :)

@Rubies: DH loves to give E dessert, and I'm always the bad guy saying no. DH wants to be his eating buddy all the time. Grr...

I think by 15 months she understood that food was kept in the refrigerator, and would point to it when she was hungry. Now, at 19 months, she knows where different snacks/foods are kept and will let me know exactly what she wants. Lately she's been wanting the ice cream sandwiches I have hidden in the freezer :T

@Rubies: my DH & LO's "thing" is getting ice-cream together, too. At least once or twice a week, when he takes her out on his own, they always make a pit stop for froyo or ice cream. He tries to hide it from me, but the ice cream smeared all over her face is a dead giveaway :T

@mrbee: @yin: @chopsuey: I just love how DH creates a problem that I have to deal with. *punch in his face!* I always tell DD no! Poor girl is going to hate me!

DD used to ask for cheese and food from the fridge when she was 15ish months old? Now at 2.5 she knows exactly what she wants all the time!
She'll ask for ice cream, cupcakes, chocolate, lollipops, etc, but will only take a couple bites before she's over it. I say no to her most of the time and she usually accepts my answer.

E likes to ask for dessert after dinner, but luckily he doesn't ask everyday. He usually gets sorbet, soy ice cream sandwiches, or vegan cupcakes on very special occasions. Most times that he asks for dessert, I say no and he accepts my answer. I just don't know what's going to happen when he no longer finds my answer acceptable.

We had a similar problem with candy... eventually we had to stop making trips to the corner store our special thing. Eventually Charlie stopped begging for it... it took a few weeks before the message sunk in though!!

My DH loves to spoil DD with frequent trips to get ice cream (well, sorbet, since DD has a dairy allergy). I think DH is turning it into his "thing" to do with DD...You know, daddy/daughter ice cream dates.

But now, at 26 months, DD now knows how to ask/whine/beg for ice cream. Every day she asks for it. SIGH. I suppose it was inevitable.
