Most people aren't there long enough. But you'll have a pediatrician appointment soon after leaving the hospital and they will ask about how many diapers and other things related to baby getting dehydrated. I had LO on a Monday. Went home on Wednesday. LO had lost more than 10% of his birth weight when we left the hospital so we had to go for a weight check on Friday and Saturday. He lost a couple more oz on Friday and if he hadn't gained or stayed the same on Saturday the pediatrician wanted us to supplement. He stayed the same on Saturday, I think my milk had started coming in on Friday night. It just gradually shifted from colostrum to milk, around day 4-5. I had a long induced labor that ended in a c-section, and I wasn't able to nurse her for about 8 hrs after she was born. It was basically 72 hours after birth I noticed it had changed (change in color to yellow ish) but not fully all milk (white in color) and that was at night. The next morning they were engorged. Day 2 with #1 and Day 4 with #2.
