Mine was awake and taking 3 45 minute naps a day by that point and then mostly sleeping at night. I was concerned she wasn't sleeping enough, but she was sleeping the right amount for her I guess. She's not high sleep needs it seems. Plus, it's a little deceptive to refer to 37 weeks as term. Remember that 37 weeks is full term for some babies, but for some it's up to 4 weeks early! So, depending on your LOs own trends, baby may only be 4 weeks old, developmentally. Try to enjoy, I bet LO will be waking up soon! He's 14 weeks now and sleeps about 8-9 hours overnight and a few naps during the day at home. But if we're out and he's in the car seat, he's dead to the world no matter what so that could be 3 hours in a row some days. She has much longer periods of being quietly alert and finally stopped falling asleep during tummy time. That being said, she is still an extremely sleepy baby when I compare her to her older sister and other newborns I'm close to. DH used to comment how LO2s eyes were always closed but now he sees he is much more alert. I only recall that because any time my mom held him she always wanted him to go to sleep. It's rare for him to stay up more than 90 minutes at a time, but he's usually up 30-45 minutes a few times a day. I remember my mom was getting a bit concerned - like she would sneak him a pacifier whenever he woke up and she was around, and she'd justify it saying, "I don't think he knows he can be awake and not eating!" What you described is pretty normal I think. I never thought they should more awake. I did have twins that were born at 34 weeks so they would be more sleepy than a full term baby. 37 weeks is considered full term. She usually wakes every 2-3 hours during the day and anywhere from about 3-6 hours overnight to eat. We don't wake her at night because she has already gained very well. When she wakes to eat she usually falls asleep at the breast or half way through the bottle. Sometimes she wakes up again when we burp her and is awake for maybe 15mins on average. i can only count a handful of times where she was up for maybe 45 mins until I put her back down for a nap so it's very rare. This girl falls asleep during tummy time! Please don't hate me for having a sleepy child. I'm starting to get concerned that she's still sleeping so much still at 2mo.
