i'm still doing dailey method classes, but you're dialing it back as needed. you're doing way more, so be proud! above all, listen to your body as other PPs mentioned and realize that are this point, it's okay that you're slowing down. any exercise is good, and you've been rocking it out for the last 30 weeks!

At 38 weeks I"m still going to the gym like 3 times a week...but it sounds like your workouts are more intense than mine are! I'm usually walking briskly (like 4.0 on the treadmill) for 25-30 minutes, or doing the elliptical for 20minutes or so...I think it also helps that I"m not working though! I can't imagine working full time and having the energy to go to the gym. As someone who has also struggled with an ED in the past and freaked the eff out about weight gain during pregnancy, I just want to encourage you to be kind to your body (this was hard for me, considering that I spent most of my life looking at my body like it was something to work into submission!)--try to enjoy the last 7 weeks that you'll be carrying little Harper, and do workouts that feel good to you, whether that's long slow walks, swimming, or even just doing lots of stretching. You look amazing right now, and you will look amazing the day you deliver, regardless of whether you swell or gain more weight than you would have liked. And then, it'll be over and you can have your body back (can you tell I'm excited about this part, lol).

@Foodnerd81: There is a "Silver Sneakers" pool aerobics class at my gym for the little old ladies...Maybe they would let me join them:). Actually, I think there may be a water boot canp class and if there is- that would be perfect!

In the end I did a lot of pool exercises. I was pregnant in the summer so I could do aqua zumba, it was awesome! I did it all the way up till a week before I delivered.

@jholler25: It sounds totally hokey, but I had a friend who swore by water aerobics when she was pregnant. Just her a few retired old ladies, rocking out in the pool at the gym. But just swimming laps would be good cardio and give you some relief from gravity.

@jholler25: Yep, I've definitely had some disordered issues around food/eating/body image for a long time. I don't think they ever really go away, but pregnancy has been a very interesting test on all of those former rituals and habits, for sure! It really is amazing how the different seasons of life bring up different aspects of it. I expect I will always suffer from it in some way or another, but if I can feel mostly peaceful about it most of the time and can connect and support others who may be struggling as well, than that makes me happy.

@highwire: Thank you so so much for that. You are so sweet, and that made me feel a lot better. I almost cried:) I have noticed that when I'm exhausted, I cry! You're right about the blood volume...I forget about that and I blame getting bigger on "me." Like I noticed that my thighs pretty much touch at all times as of about last week...No longer just casually brushing against one another when I walk. Now they're conjoined. And I'll feel guilty because I was traveling for work last week and only went 3x to gym and ate out a lot because of being on the road, but chances are due to blood volume I would have Conjoined Thighs anyway:) I think I've seen you post something about a former ED. If you can't tell, I had one 10-12 years ago, but my weight/gaining weight will be a constant borderline obsession for me. I'll never not be conscious of it, and I'll never totally let it go. Once you have an obsession like that, it's pretty much impossible to forget it. Pregnancy has been a little tougher for me than I had anticipated, because even though for the first time, gaining weight is okay, I still have the guilt. I try to compensate for it by watching what I eat and staying in the gym even though I'd rather stick needles in my eyeballs. I'm not one of those people that loves working out. I hate it. But I feel, and have felt for the past decade, that it is a necessity for my sanity. To control my weight and my guilt. So thank you for always being so supportive:) It is honestly so very helpful:)

@blackbird: I actually just got the Boppy support belt, and it definitely helps with the RLP I was getting on the elliptical. So I can't use that as an excuse anymore for not going:(

@Foodnerd81: Lol, your northerner's view is correct...There are pools everywhere here, including in our back yard:) I have heard that before about swimming, but I don't really know how to work out in a pool. I wonder if it's just swimming laps or a routine of some sort? I need to google this, like I do everything else in my life:)

@jholler25: If you are looking for another workout that's easier on your preg body, do you swim? I have heard from a lot of people that it feels so good, and you can get a really good workout doing it with less strain on your body. Since you are in Florida, it seems like there would be pools everywhere, but maybe that's a northerner's view...

Have you thought about a support belt? that might help alleviate some of the belly strain. I do crossfit and i've had to scale back already, but I'm still fully capable of lifting in the 90 pound range, comfortably. For now =\

I think you've done an awesome, way above-average, amount of exercise during pregnancy, and it shows. You look really, really great. I don't think it is a big deal to listen to your body at this point and if you have to scale back, go ahead. You can also shorten your workouts if you want. Just shoot for 15 minutes on the elliptical and maybe split up your weights routine into smaller 15 minute sets. It may seem like a waste of time to get yourself to the gym for 30 minutes, but try not to worry about that part.

As for "blowing up in the 3rd tri" I'm pretty sure that happens to most everyone, ha! If your family wants to give you a hard time about it, tell them to shove it. Carrying a full-term baby and producing 50% more blood than usual makes anyone look a little puffy, no matter how many workouts anyone is doing. That's just part of the "end of pregnancy" I feel (not that I'm an expert).

Anyway, just want to say that you've been a huge inspiration to me (and I bet a few others) around here with keeping up with the exercise for as long as you have. If you need to scale back now, no one can fault you for that and try not to feel guilty about it. I'm feeling really weighed down and slow at this point as well, so I'm trying to just do whatever I can, and call it a day.

Aww you look great!! And I think you're doing such an amazing job! I haven't had any sort of exercise routine and I'm afraid of post-partum effects because of it!

I'm trying to keep up with a third trimester workout dvd as to get some regular cardio and strength training in, but ugh-- after work; I'm just drained!

I think at this point in pregnancy, you just just take one day at a time. I'm 37 weeks pregnant, and at 30 weeks I felt like i was going to die at the gym. And then I did my normal workout on the elliptical just yesterday and felt great. Just listen to your body and know that even if you do blow up - it'll only be 7 weeks worth, instead of the whole 3rd tri ;) Plus, you'll have plenty of motivation to lose it after the baby...that's what I tell myself. This is a time we should be pampering ourselves a little as well, so just do what you enjoy and what makes you feel most comfortable.

Good for you for keeping up with working out! I have not worked out my entire pregnancy besides occasional walks. I think I really started to slow down at around 35 weeks. I notice that I walk slower, and my feet hurt so bad after just running a couple errands. I hate bending over and getting off the couch is a lot of work! It's gotten worse is the last week or so (almost 38 weeks now). It's frustrating because I wish I could do more, but I physically can't. I have to take frequent breaks and rest my feet.

@Coco Bee: Yeah, that's one idea...I have a pretty good prenatal yoga dvd that's actually a pretty good workout- it makes my legs burn! I had gotten out of going to yoga while preg because Pregs have to modify so much, I didn't feel like I got a good workout. And for $18ish a class, I decided to just do my own thing. I also took a prenatal class at the studio and I practically fell asleep:) I *need* to feel like I got a good workout in, or I feel like it was a waste, so I scratched the PN class at the studio....But I just remembered when I saw your post that I do have that pretty kick-ass prenatal dvd:) Thanks!

@mole: So that's a bummer to hear that you also move slower on the bike. I was actually going to try to do a couple of spin classes (going way easier than I would have pre preg) a week because I thought it might be "easier" on my body since half of it is sitting instead of standing. Sounds like we're just doomed to be slow and tired!

All I can say is good for you! I haven't been allowed to work out the entire pregnancy essentially and know when I have over done it, or done what I wasn't supposed to (like a hike at 30w) I was so spent and wiped and could not imagine keeping up with my usual activity!

I think slowing down at any point from here on in is completely reasonable. What you are doing is fantastic, but it is not worth wearing yourself completely out for! Staying healthy is one thing, wearing yourself out over gym could get you sick if you over do it, and that is not worth it!

My whole family talks about how women in our family "blow up" in the third tri. So that's part of my third tri fear! That I'll let myself give in to the exhaustion, and then be a whale.

Regardless, I'm going to have to slow down. I have 7 weeks until my induction, and I can't survive feeling like I'm going to collapse. I literally dropped a quarter on the ground earlier and was like, "F that. I'm too tired to bend over..." I don't think that's normal!

Man, I'm already feeling it at the halfway point. I try to workout at home or at the gym 3-4 days per week. At the gym, I am only trying to do 40 minute intervals on the bike, and I feel like I pedal so slowly up the "hills." My mile time has also tanked. It's funny to know that I used to be able to run an entire marathon at a pace that is 2 minutes faster than what I can now do one mile!

Um... I'm not pregnant and that would be a really big gym session for me, like, once a week. I'm lame at gym going. I think you should definitely allow yourself to ease up. It's great that you are still going, but there is nothing wrong with doing lighter weights and moving a little slower on the elliptical.

Omg, ya'll. I'm just about 32 weeks and I am basically worn the F out. I try to go to the gym and do 30 mins elliptical and 30 mins free weights about 4x a week, but lately when I've went, I am just ZAPPED halfway through, and I've only been doing about 20-25 mins of elliptical. AND what used to take me 30 minutes when I lifted weights, now takes me 40-45. Same routine!

I am slow and I am tired, but I feel so guilty if I don't go...So I'm wondering when the physical take-over of carrying a bowling ball hit you? And were you able to power through and just feel exhausted? Or did you slow down?

I mean, I worked out this am and I feel basically useless. Like I'm in slow motion. Nightime insomnia doesn't help!
