I'd ask your OB. My Ob told me that I could exercise as much as I found comfortable but to only have a very elevated heart rate for no more than 45 minutes. But I could exercise for 45 minutes, rest and get my heart rate down, and then continue as desired. He basically just said that overheating is easy when you're pregnant so be aware but don't think you need to stop exercising.

@Autumnmama79: Thanks! I started working with the trainer at 17mo pp because I had so many aches and pains from my last pregnancy. So I am motivated to stay on top of those issues now. I also don't have any symptoms yet. Who knows if this is even a sticky pregnancy.

@ElbieKay: I just want to say how amazing you (and the other mamas like you) are to work out in the first trimester - I felt near death for a good 14 weeks. You are awesome!

I have a trainer and I've been told by my doc and by my trainer that they should know right away. There are modifications that should be made. You have to be more cognizant of heart rate, for example. And I lift fairly heavy weights so that would have to be modified.
Better safe than sorry!

I consider the rule about not telling people more about people I "know". Family and friends. I'll tell my trainer because I view them as part of my "healthcare" team.

I would tell the trainer right away. I always told instructors in classes i took, in case it was necessary to make modifications. I agree that they aren't part of the "announcements circle".

I would tell the trainer right away. They will be able to give you any modifications you might need. It's not really announcing in my mind, just letting your provider of a service know.

@ElbieKay: If you feel like your trainer should know, to start modifying specific exercises, then do tell them. If it was me, i wouldn't worry about that until something like morning sickness, which may play a role in your energy level, or you don't feel comfortable performing some exercises. I'm a trainer, and I would want to know if my client was pregnant but it may cause your trainer to not train you as hard or push you as much as before they knew. Totally a personal choice. The trainer will most likely modify your program for you and your pregnancy, even if it's early.
When I was coaching high school basketball which was very physically demanding, I told my head coach before anyone else around 8 weeks because I was really sick and wasn't myself. I'm happy I did. Good luck!

I have a different opinion on this. I didn't tell my trainer until 13 weeks because of privacy/anxiety about whether the pregnancy would make it. I knew I wouldn't really need to modify until later on so I just took it easy and listened to my body. Most of it in the first trimester just depends on how you feel and if you feel good, you can pretty much do anything you want. Do what you're comfortable with.

I told my trainers right away when I was pregnant with LO - the owner of my gym said she's often one of the first people to know! At my gym at least this is routine practice and they keep it confidential.

Tell the trainer now. I worked with a trainer when I got pregnant and let her know it was very early and we weren't sharing the news yet. She therefore didn't talk about it when we were in the gym. There were definitely exercises she modified and she provided good tips to help me throughout the pregnancy.

Congrats!

I agree to tell too, just so they know and can tailor your workouts better or not to push you too hard. Though I've read that it is ok to continue with your current level of exercise; just not starting something or adding more.

I don't think you have to change up your physical routine until you're further along, although I personally would probably say something because I'm paranoid. But that's just a personality thing. I don't think there's any reason to say something if you don't want to.

I just got a BFP two days ago. I have no pregnancy symptoms so far. I have been working with a personal trainer to address lingering postpartum issues. I don't want to announce to anyone until after my NT scan in about 7 weeks. Do I still have to tell my trainer now if I have no symptoms?
