Essentially, schools have six weeks on, one week off (half term break), six weeks on, two weeks off (term break), and then repeat two more times until the six week summer break. It works brilliantly as you never have a long stretch in school without any breaks coming up. But summer vacation from the kids' perspective is a magical one and it does seem short.<br /> Here in MN, June is typically still cool and rainy. Our summer weather doesn't start until July and goes through the end of August, so it would be a bummer for kids here not to experience the real summer because they had to go back to school.
