i let my 5yo brush in am herself. We brush after she does for bedtime especially back teeth. She's kind of resistant to doing it herself too!

We brush DS at 4. He's pretty good when he tries on his own but I doubt good enough.

DS is almost 4.5 and we let him brush his own in the morning if we're rushed for time, but we always brush them for him before bed to make sure they're totally clean.

DS is 4.5 and we still do the majority of the brushing. We've always done it - unfortunately, he has my teeth and has some cavities he already has to have filled in his molars in between his teeth. Our teeth are so tight, and though we floss with him too, we're prone to cavities. I'll continue to at least check him for a while.

Our dentist said that kids should be double checked until age 10! No way I'm doing that. We double check my 5 yr old but not the 8 yr old.

Our dentist said that he won't have the coordination to do it well on his own until he can tie his shoes. And even then we should be still doing a once over because kids are kids.
She said done once and for all at like 7/8 I think?
We have an appt coming up next week so I'll ask again. (He's only 2.5 so we have plennnnnty of brushing left in our future. Lol.)

Our dentist said age 8 so that's what I did. I just would have felt so guilty if they brushed themselves and got a cavity because I wasn't checking

anyway, DS turned 8 in September and he just had his 1st check-up (since I stopped checking) and the dentist said his is doing a great job - no cavities

eta: In the AM they do it on their own since age 5 - I only checked at bedtime

I still do a quick rebrush for my 5 year old. I think my parents stopped at age 6 or 7.

At what age do you think kids can brush their teeth on their own, well enough so that they don't need to be checked by an adult afterwards?

My LO is 4.5 and we still brush her teeth for her, she actually won't brush her own for more than a few seconds. The funny thing is though, she is SUPER picky about us brushing her teeth long/good enough. I really want her to start brushing a good portion on her own and then we just do a quick check after and eventually do it on her own. Hopefully sooner rather than later?
