2 1/2 - 3 1/2 was the hardest i thought...the tantrums, the flailing, the drama of the littlest thing or nothing at all cuz you have no idea what they're so pissed off about! at 3 1/2 i could start seeing the light, as she got easier, and at 4, it's a lot lot better. but guess what, my 21 month old just had her first humongous tantrum the other day, here we go again.......

My oldest never had terrible twos. He had impossible 3s and 4s. My youngest was born with the terrible twos. But he seems to be better now that he's 2.5. I feel like my oldest gets worse as he gets older and my youngest gets better as he gets older. Hmm...

@Mamaof2: Tumultuous! Good one!

This thread makes me sad. LO just turned two yesterday. This morning, we had a timeout because he threw something. Throwing and hitting are automatic timeouts with us. The tantrums already suck. DH and I have learned that walking away from him during a bad one to not give him attention works. Man, the toddler/preschool years are tough.

@looch: I've enjoyed the 3's more than the 2's too! DD's personality just really blossomed, and the attitude, sass, and spunk is a lot of fun. Love that she's way more independent too.

@HLK208: I agree. 5 was hard, both times. I feel like I've blocked out a lot of WHY it was hard. So much whining.

@.twist.: totally agree, that's the way it is with my 5 year-old. The testing boundaries just never ends from what I've read but luckily, it's a normal part of childhood development.

E is 26 months and the tantrums have been pretty bad for the past 6 months, and just getting worse (throwing herself, screaming louder and more frequently). B mellowed out at 2.5 until 3 and then 3 was just...hard. Very hard. Most of 4 was good. 5 is kind of hard again.

I just try to focus on the good. How much they are growing, learning and playing. At the end of the day, the funny things they say and their sweet moments make me forget about the bad.

In our experience, threes were a lot better than the twos, because he had more language, but he also got more bold.

I was looking forward to 2 ending until i heard the term "threenager" and realized how utterly screwed we are.

I will say that I agree that it does get better once they start talking. The communication aspect improving definitely caused a drop in the tantrums.

I was going to say the same, when the trying 3's begin. We are here and the whining! The hurt feelings! The testing! I think it's the constant testing that's going to do me in.

@regberadaisy: That sounds better! I'm anxious for him to have his verbal explosion so the full body thrashing tantrums/hitting can come to an end! I just feel bad for how frustrated he gets that he can't express himself. You're right though, it just kind of evolves rather than completely stops at a certain point in time. I can live with that!

haha @petunia354: I will elaborate on my answer. My LO is 28 months and I will say in the last 2 ish months her language has completely exploded and we can have a dialogue/conversation. So the random thrashing just crying endlessly tantrums have lessened. We can say "use your words" and have her explain to us what the issue is. Does not mean she doesn't tantrum but we also hold very firm on time outs and punishments if she does not listen. We follow through and it seems to help!

Someone please tell me it ends, right? Right?! It's at least got to get a little bit better. Maybe once she can communicate a little better? If you went through terrible twos, at what point did it calm down a little bit?
