I think it totally depends on the kid. Lo is 21 months and honestly has not wanted to be carried since he learned to walk at 10 months. He tolerates it when I'm in a hurry to get somewhere but he almost always walks and holds my hand when he isnt in his stroller.

never. my 2.5 year old still wants to be carried. She'll happily walk, run, ride in the stroller ... but mommy's arms are apparently the best place to be. So ... my answer is .. never!

I got a back injury from carrying my toddler past the point that my back could safely do so, so she got used to me saying no really early. Now she never asks me, and rarely my husband. She's pretty independent anyway, and she gets her snuggling at other times.

DD1 will be 3 in January and still asks us to hold her. It's frustrating, but I try to remember that it won't be long before she won't want us near her. haha

Mine is 26 month old and still likes to be held, we are trying to get her to walk more since 1) I'm pregnant and she's getting too heavy for me & 2) we will have a baby soon and she needs to be walking instead of expecting to be held.

Probably just after 3? LO2 arrived right before LO1 turned 3, so there was definitely some jealousy. But he is so heavy that my back hurts, so I really had to stop carrying him not long after he turned 3. I would just tell him he's too big or too heavy and that he has legs and can walk! Otherwise, I would tell him to crawl if he didn't want to walk, which, of course, he would never do.

My 2.75 year old son is still ALWAYS asking us to hold and carry him. Always! He is getting so heavy to carry, and I thought he needs to be independent and start walking all the time on his own. The only time he doesn't ask to be carried is when we are on a playdate with his friends. Everyone else walks so he walks. Other than that grrrr.

Am I too harsh? When does your LO stop asking you to hold/carry him? When do they refuse you to carry them? If they do ask you to carry them, did you do something to "wean" them off of that? What did you do?
