@Ellie: If we are doing errands and I am going to wear her, I get her undressed and in the wrap while we're in the car where it is warm. Then I use my Kowalli to cover her up enough to dash into wherever. She would wear a hat. If we're just going to play outside I dress her up as usual for an outdoor activity, and then get her situated in the wrap.

All the time! I live in a college town, so people tend to not be very understanding when you have a stroller. Baby wearing is just easier for me. Just a note-I also have back problems and walking/standing gets me every time, but the baby wearing doesn't make it any worse. I'd definitely try some different carriers or get fit recommendations from a local group, if you have one.

I've greatly reduced my baby wearing now that it's super cold out. How do others do it in harsh winter conditions? If my LO is in her winter duds, she's overdressed for the carrier indoors. It seems like too much of a hassle when I go grocery shopping to carry her indoors, undress her and then put her in her carrier, only to re-dress her after shopping and taking her and my cart out to the car. I find I just leave her in her car seat now.

@MapleMoose: We wear for naps right now, too. It's just so eeeeasy!

I wear her if I'm trying to get something done around the house, while I watch tv (bouncing on the yoga ball), we've done a few walks when the weather has permitted, and yes, I've done laps around the kitchen to get a decent nap out of her. ;)

It's probably easier for me to answer when I don't babywear lol. She always wants to be held and only naps for 20 mins unless she can fall asleep in the carrier. Besides all the time around the house (cleaning, walking around), I babywear at the grocery store, Target, family parties and events, dinner at my parents house, while working from home, for walks around the neighborhood... DH and I both have Lillebaby carriers.

B is 6 months old, and I've maybe used her stroller..10 times? I have an Olive and Applesauce carrier and I use it every single day. For walking the dog, grocery shopping, walking from where we parked to Dr's or coffee or anything. When she was a little younger I'd wear her if she was really fussy and I wanted to clean or start dinner prep.

Sorry you have back problems. Maybe there's a group in your town and you could see if there's a carrier that works better for you?

@ShootingStar: also, I wear a kinder carry. It comes in sizes, you can wear front or back (age appropriate) and I love it.
It is a little bulky but I can carry her for hours and hours with no strain.

When she was teeny I wore her in the Moby all. the. time. Usually outside, walking up and down the back road near my house so she'd sleep, on public transportation, to the store... it was the only way she was happy.

Now I wear her when we are running quick errands, or if it's snowy outside and pushing the stroller is really annoying, or on public transportation if I'm not carrying other stuff and I'll have someplace to put her down when I get where I'm going. I find wearing her to be a lot more convenient than pushing the stroller, but if I'm going to be carrying other stuff than the stroller is easier. I don't wear her if it's icy out though-- I'm terrified of falling on the ice while wearing her.

I live in the city and walk or take public transportation much more often than taking the car.

@ShootingStar: Sorry to hear about your back problems. I have a Beco too and I would suggest checking that the waist/hip is fitted nice and tight, but I can see how it would still bother your back. And I assume you have baby facing in? I know that's more comfortable than face out.

Everywhere! I wear around the house when I need to get things done and he wants to be held, when we are out shopping, at the zoo/museum/science center. He loves to be worn.

FWIW, I didn't babywear as much until I got my Tula. It's the only carrier (thus far) that doesn't kill my back.

I second what @yoursilverlining: said but then I saw your post@ShootingStar: that you have back problems. Bummer  Then I would only say to double check that you are wearing as snug as possible/safe. That help back strain.
Mine is 20 months and I wear anytime I need her contained or we are going to walk more than she is able. I also wear her in place of a stroller, like when we walk to the park, etc.

I wear the ergo whenever we're out of the house running errands. It feels comfortable and never bothers my back or shoulders. I forget to take it out of the car so I don't use it as often as I should when I'm home.

I'll wear one of them when I need to go grocery shopping and the cart doesn't have a place for two of them, or around the house when one doesn't want to be put down, or when I go on walks with DH and we don't want to use the stroller. I'm only now getting the hang of it, and they're 14 months!

I should mention my back has some issues from getting rear ended twice. It tends to get tired/sore if I've been on my feet for a while. Babywearing seems to accelerate that.

I wear DS if we're going to a place where having a stroller isn't feasible or too much of a hassle (e.g crowded places).

Carrying your LO shouldn't be painful. I carried DS for more than 5 hours once, and it never once felt like I was carrying him (I have the Ergo). I would re-evaluate the fit of your carrier.

We never take a stroller anywhere, so I wear her wherever I need to make sure she can't run away (lol), anywhere it's crowded and if she is tired or sleepy at all. In places like grocery stores with carts, she will sometimes sit in the cart, although she prefers to be worn (or let down to run around!).

If its hurting your back, you might want to check your fit/carry. I still wear my 19 month old and can wear her for hours without it hurting my back at all.

Before I was hugely pregnant with this little guy, I would babywear when ever we were out of the house. I have a ring sling. I have been baby wearing since N was 4 weeks old and only really stopped when he was 14 months old. I can't seem to get comfortable with N and my pregnant belly (8 months). I plan to babywear this next one just like I did with N. I LOVE my ring sling tho.

A lot while running errands, around the house when she needed help falling asleep, around the house when I needed to do things and she wanted to be held, at church... Now we're pretty limited to when she's sick or we're in a place that a stroller won't be practical.

I'm still trying to get the hang of baby-wearing and I'm wondering when other people do it? I've tried it at the grocery store and in a way it worked great, because he slept the whole time. But man, my back was done after that (using my Beco). I alternate between using my Mei Tai and Beco at home, but all I end up doing is wandering around the house. I'm afraid to do it in public too much because I'm worried I'm going to get too tired.

So when do you babywear?
