I feel like that is taking the easy way out and I really should be finding some other way to get DD to behave. It has just been so easy to say ok, timeout! But since they do not give time outs at daycare, I was finding that this inconsistency between home and school discipline was causing problems. So I've been working really hard on eliminating time outs and I feel like I have much more control of the situation if I can get her to cooperate without using one. </p> <p>And I know you recommended that book but I can't find any time to read it! I'm really trying to be more calm during DS's tantrums...if we're at home sometimes I have to walk away or sometimes I hold him to let him know that I care that his feelings are hurt. Giving shots to her consisted of taking the metal end of a stroller bar and touching it to her arm, while saying, "Don't worry, this won't hurt. I'm a good doctor!"</p> <p>I guess she didn't believe him because she started crying... then I told him not to give her shots... and he started crying because he really wanted to. Then he got mad at me and tried to hit me, while Olive's crying escalated to become more and more hysterical.</p> <p>I did not feel on top of parenting in that moment. Everything worked out eventually and I felt better, but in that moment I felt like I didn't have the hang of parenting. For the record, this all happened about 20 minutes after I had just felt like I had mastered parenting. This whole parenting journey can be a rollercoaster!</p> <p>When do you feel least like you've gotten the hang of parenting? </p>
