I would do a lot of finger foods. It wasn't healthy at all.... but I was hungry! Frozen pizza was a big one for me.

@bpcmarj: The Moby looks complicated, but actually it's really easy after you practice using it once or twice. For a newborn I like the cradle hold and the newborn hug hold. You can find videos on youtube that show you how to do the different holds.

I totally know what you're going through. When LO was a newborn, I wouldn't eat until 3-4pm! And it would be just toast or something I can eat standing up with one hand! Eating was such a challenge.

A friend sent me a Moby wrap and it should be waiting in my mailbox for me. A local center is having a babywearing class next week so hopefully I can go and learn how to use the thing!! :) DH is taking tomorrow off, so I plan on having him take me to the store for some easy sandwich stuff and healthy snacks. She did sit in her carseat today while I heated up pasta, so I did get to eat today (at 3:45!!).

The first few months, I ate fried rice for lunch almost every day cause it was easy to make a big batch and reheat as needed. I also had a snack basket near my nursing chair with fruit, granola bars, nuts, and other easy to snack items. Baby carrier also helped to free up the other hand.

I have NO idea what we're going to do when she goes back home! waahhhh!!!

I'm sure we'll figure it out....

I swear my baby knows when I'm about to finally sit down to eat. She *always* wakes up screaming about 60 seconds before I start a meal. I've found that the Moby wrap works pretty well. I put her in the sling, throw together a sandwich, and eat it over her head, while I rock my body back and forth to try to get her to sleep. It's not glamorous, but it kind of works. As far as drinking water goes, I always keep a full water bottle on the couch where I feed her, and I constantly sip water while she's drinking her milk.

i had my husband the first week, my mom and sister the second week and my friend the third. But I used the moby wrap to keep the baby on me while I prepared a light lunch. I was stocked on canned soups and sandwich essentials so that it was all easy lunches. I know it's hard!

I ate a lot of frozen food that I nuked and granola bars. Do you have a baby carrier? Your LO can sleep while you eat.

@WiLLoWtReE: I am right with you. DH works everday, generally, from about 4am to 7pm. I don't think he quite gets it. I'm thinking of having him help and make some pasta salad or sandwiches to put im the fridge for the week. I was able to have a pop tart this morning, and even toasted it! Small victories

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this problem. DH is a fireman and works 24 hr shifts so I'm home by myself with the baby 24 hrs at a time about 3 days a week. He's been giving me a hard time about not eating regularly. He seems to think that I should be able to cook myself something whenever I want and that I should also do that regularly on some sort of schedule. Basically I should be on a schedule like the baby lol. I tried to explain to him that sometimes I just can't. He doesn't get it.

My LO is also about two weeks and I *just* got my first meal of the day now at almost 2pm! It was a granola bar. I've been eating a lot of those lately.

I'm struggling with the water drinking its killer! I also had no appetite when I first got home. It's slowly coming back but it's more time oriented than actually feeling hunger pangs.

My DD loves to be held too! All babies must!

I made a ton of frozen burritos and calzones when I was pregnant, so that helped a lot. Oh, and spanikopita. And muffins. Try and make up some wraps or sandwiches in advance when someone else can snuggle the baby, and stash them in the fridge. You can also do pureed soup in an insulated mug, which is great because it stays warm if you can't finish right away.

My mom was with us for the first 2 weeks so she made sure I ate! Life was miserable when she left..
I would make big batches of easily reheatable foods that you can eat with one hand! Sandwiches are also good.

Man. I remember not eating my first meal until 1-2pm when I was home alone with the baby..
It gets better!

LO is just under 2 weeks old, and still will only sleep when I am holding her. DH works during the day, but takes care of dinner for us. Breakfast is easy enough to do while holding her, it only takes a minute to pour some cereal and milk in a bowl.

How do you make time to eat when you have a newborn who is constantly eating and wanting to be held? Are there things that you have pre-made to make lunch quicker? I know eating right and drinking enough water is really important when EBF, I am just finding it difficult to figure out how to eat a good lunch. Any tips would be REALLY appreciated!
