I would do it now. I think they like to know you're trying.

I think since she's already sent a note, I would wait until Friday and then contact them to see if any decision has been made. You don't want to see over-aggressive!

@MamaMoose: @Coco Bee: My friend sent a follow-up! But she got an out-of-office reply. Fail. :(

@daniellemybelle: I always just called and said, "Hi, this is *name name*, I had an interview last week and I was following up to see if you had made a decision yet." That way people have to respond right then and there. I usually had people say, "What was your name?" Then they'd pull my application/interview notes - that gives a much better chance because they see you made the effort and can't just disregard the call like you can an email.

@daniellemybelle: Yup I think it would be fair to send an email at this point. Just make sure you don't sound pushy.

@mrbee: Whatever do you mean with those quotation marks? :)

I suggested to my friend that she follow up with the job that did give a time frame on Monday, as that will be one business day after the two week time frame. I feel like following up ON the exact two week mark is a bit over-zealous...

@Coco Bee: @MamaMoose: Both of you suggested for the other job a week from the date of the interview... which would have been last Thursday. So do you think it would be kosher to send an email to the HR person (who I was told to follow up with) today? To @mrsjyw's point, if they indicated that it is a longer hiring process, perhaps it's better to wait a full two weeks.

I work at a global HR solutions company and I know the recruiters at my company appreciate the "ty email" right away, but the "am i hired" email to come after the time that they've let the interviewee know during the interview. It gives them time to proactively call th interviewee first if they've made a decision, and if not, after that time period is when HR will have heard back from the hiring manager on their decision.

I'd tell your friend to call/e-mail after Friday about the one job and then as far as the other open ended one, sounds like a long hiring process and she may want to just keep in touch on a bimonthly basis per phone/e-mail.

I would definitely wait until Friday on the interview where they gave a deadline. As the interviewer I think I would feel a little annoyed if the candidate was pressing for an answer prior to the deadline I provided. The hand written note is enough of a follow for the time being. On the other job I would give it a week from the date of the interview and then follow up with an email asking if they have come up with a timeline for when they might make a final decision.

I think both times I interviewed, I waited 2 days to send a followup email thanking them for their time. I wanted to make sure I was still fresh in their mind.

I usually follow-up in a week. But if they said they would be making a decision on Friday, then I would wait until Friday. That's awesome she wrote them thank you notes!

Tell your "friend" that I would followup asap, so that the interviewer still remembers you! :-)

A friend of mine had two job interviews the week before last (one on Thursday and one on Friday) and she is itching to write follow-up emails to check on the status of the jobs. She already sent handwritten thank-you notes to the interviewers at both places. One of the jobs indicated that they would make a decision in about two weeks (which would be Friday of this week) and the other didn't indicate anything other than that they were just beginning the interview process.

When would you follow up?
