DS is 6 months, and I wait until he actually cries, which can sometimes be as long as 10 minutes after he starts making noise. He's a noisy sleeper, so I probably wake up 5+ times a night to his noises, but he usually only needs 1-2 times a night. I can tell if she is truly hungry though - it's not quiet fussing but straight up hollering. She still wakes up at least once a night, sometimes twice for a feeding. Can't wait 'till we cut out these night feedings once and for all!! Now, I let him fuss for awhile because 75% of the time he will put himself back to sleep. He has been sleeping through the night about 1x a week so if he wakes in the night I wait until he's been fussing or crying for a few minutes before getting him. At 7 months I don't think he needs night nursing all the time anymore. For the first 3.5 months she rarely cried during the night because I was in tune to her sounds etc. Now its a bit of a different story because she clearly doesn't need to eat as much as she claims and we usually have a fit or two trying to go back down without nursing. She's 15 weeks now. When she wakes up in the middle of the night, I know if she's either hungry or just fussy. Her initial hungry noises in the middle of the night are mild squawking noises. I don't let her get into a full blow cry before I get in there to feed her. Do you usually let your baby fuss for a while before going in or do you go in right away? All of this stems from a comment my husband made last night. It was 7:30, she woke up and I knew if I got to her and fed her, she would go right back down. I went upstairs, grabbed her and took her into the bedroom to feed her. My husband said, "She has you trained!" Well, yeah. I guess she does.
