If you are uncomfortable giving meds, hylands teething tabs can be helpful!

@gilmoregirl: a few doses of Motrin won't hurt him! If he is acting off it is probably that tooth or another!

@mrs. tictactoe: @.twist.: @winniebee: This is my problem! He definitely has a tooth poking through -- I can feel the top of it -- but I still don't know whether he's in pain or that's why he was so fussy today. Since I wrote that post this morning, he got super fussy and upset all day, but it really didn't seem like it was teething pain. Oh well. I gave him a dose of motrin because he needs sleep and I do think it might have been pain that kept him up this early morning.

I only medicate during the day because nothing seems to disturb her sleep at night. I tend to give it if I feel she is being unusually fussy for no other reason accompanied with a lot of drool!

Advil at night if he has been fussing/not sleeping well and I can see a tooth is coming in. Then we'll usually give it for a few nights in a row. These bottom canines will be the death of me. They keep acting like they are coming in and then they stop!

I never could figure out as a baby when he was teething or when it was just general fussy behavior. When he got a little older and his mood, eating, and sleeping was more predictable (after 12 mos) I gave him advil for teething molars and canines -- it would be pretty obvious when he was teething bc of increased drool and night waking so I usually gave it to him before bed and his nap. He did teeth 3 molars at once so I gave him doses during the day then too.

We used Tylenol at night and during the day when it was really bad, but for the most part we got through the day using the hylands teething tablets.

We have a LO that grinds his teeth really loudly and tugs at his ears when teething pain hits him, so we are lucky in that at least we know when to give him Tylenol. Sadly, ibuprofen seems to upset his tummy, so we've never had much luck with it.

I have given T Tylenol once or twice when he was just inconsolable. I took him to the dr. About a month ago worried that he might have an ear infection but it was just teething. Our ped didn't want me using orajel but recommended a drop of children's Benadryl rubbed on the gums. I haven't tried that yet as he didn't have a lot more trouble and then the tooth suddenly popped through without much fussing!

I was never 100% sure if he was fussy from teething pain or for some other reason, but if he seemed not like himself, I'd give him tylenol or motrin at night.

At night only when LO is inconsolable and in obvious pain. During the day she can be easily distracted. I like to stick with Tylenol since it's easier on the tummy, but I also think it makes my DD hyper sometimes, so I have started with Motrin instead.

I also will give her a dose in the morning before daycare if she's running a little fever or had a rough night, because I don't want her to be sent home for a teething fever!

If i am pretty confident it is teething related, i give ibuprofin. Lo is a very happy baby, so if he is fussy and chomping on his fingers i can be pretty sure thats the problem. I try to wait until he is uncomfortable to give another dose, except at night. If he is teething i automatically give a dose at bedtime. My ped said as long as i follow the dosing guidelines it is fine, and that she would rather see me use ibuprofin than tylenol.

I kind of alternate between motrin and tylenol - I'm not really sure if one works better than the other. Generally I've only given it at night, but I'll give it during the day if I feel like he really needs it.

I usually only give it when he wakes up and I think it's due to teething, but sometimes if he's been waking up consistently multiple nights, I'll give it to him before bed and hope that helps! A lot of the time, I'm just guessing that he's teething and that's why he's waking up, so I don't even know if the meds are helping or not!

Do you give it at night only? When baby seems bothered - whether it's day or night?

And do you have a preference between acetaminophen and ibuprofen?

My son woke up crying 3 times between 5-6 am this morning, which is really unusual for him. I chalked it up to more wonky sleep from practice crawling, but he just chewed on my finger and I can feel a sharp, little tooth poking through.

This might explain some of his fussier than usual behavior and his poor sleep this morning, but he doesn't seem to be bothered right now. So I dunno. Maybe I'll give him some tylenol before bed? Maybe wait to give it if he wakes overnight.
