I took sudafed, mucinex and robitussin when I was sick And pregnant recently, my ob/gyn said they were OK to take. She also prescribed me a cough syrup with codeine in it because I could not sleep at all with my hacking cough. She said getting sleep was much more important. oh and antibiotics too. Colds seem to be lasting a lot longer than normal this season. Most people I know that have been sick have had it last 2+ weeks. If you don't have a fever and your symptoms are stable to getting better, I wouldn't go. If you are getting worse, then go. Esp since you are pregs and your immune system is weaker. Hope you feel better soon.

I went after 5 days of a nasty cold at 24 weeks pregnant. They ruled out a sinus infection but gave me a prescript for a Z-pac in case things got worse.

@MrsBrewer: Ugh lame. Well, in my experience, if I don't take some medications, I end up with a raging sinus infection. Then i still end up on those meds, plus antibiotics. I know it varies greatly from Dr to Dr, and mine is more chill than most (as far as food/meds/etc goes). Sudafed causes more problems for me if i'm stuffed up...if I'm really stuffy, I need something to expel the goo out of my sinuses. If i'm just constantly draining down my throat (thin/runny/clear mucous), then i reach for sudafed (mostly an allergy med for me). The Mucinex at least helps break it up so I can get it out.

@ineebee: Yea, Once I hit the 5 days, I'm starting to wonder now. Maybe tomorrow if I'm not feeling better I will see if my general doctor has any openings, and if not I will just go to a drop in clinic quick. I hoe you feel better soon too!

I had had a pretty bad cold for about 5 days when I was 26 or 27 weeks pregnant, and on a Friday night I started having some chest pains with my cough. That's when I went to urgent care and got a prescription for a Robitussin-like medication (with sleep aid! mmm) and an inhaler. If it isn't getting any better after 5 days, I would just go to my general doctor. I'm currently wondering the same thing with my stomach bug I've had for a couple days...

Zyrtec D is also Category B, so it's deemed safe during pregnancy and it's over the counter!

5 days with a sore throat prompted me to go to urgent care to see if i had strep and i was 22 weeks pregnant. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't worse. I didn't call my OB. I took mucinex for the drainage and robitussin cough syrup. Sorry you feel so crappy. It took me a long time to kick that :(

I have been pretty sick (pretty much just really bad cold like symptoms, no fever) since Thursday. Can't breath, stuffy nose, sore throat, etc.....and I'm 21 weeks pregnant. So pretty much all cold meds are out the window.

At what point would you call the doctor? How long do you normally give something like this to run it's course? Today is now day 5, and I'm not feeling any better yet. Ugh.

Also which doctor would you call? Your OB or your general doctor?
