@Foodnerd81: @catlady: @magnoliamama42: I was thinking that I must just have the world's worst immune system to manage to pick up a nasty cold in June, but sounds like I'm not the only one. Really hope everyone feels better soon and/or stays well for the rest of the summer!

@Foodnerd81: hah, I mentioned to the nurse once that I came in because webmd said to, and she was like "the internet is scary, if you get the urge to google something, just call" but I google madly anyways :silly:

@Foodnerd81: My husband and I just got over the absolute worst cold. Coughing, congestion, sinus pressure, body aches, the whole 9 yards. I started antibiotics on Day 11, and we were both finally feeling totally better by Day 17. :crying: I hope you feel better soon!

@Foodnerd81: Hope you feel better soon. In your case, I'd definitely head in. I've never gone in myself, but I've regretted it a couple times (once for probable sinus infection, once for probable bronchitis). Btw, we have been healthy (knock on wood) but my friend's 6 month old has been getting colds non-stop since early May so seems like something is going around. Some of my LO's worst illness have been in the summer, weirdly!

@periwinklebee: you should see all my google searches these day. But yeah since its been two weeks and not clearly improving, I'm going in. Sucks. I hope yours gets better soon!

And yes, who gets sick in June? I've been to the pediatrician 4 times in the last three weeks between my two kids, and that's not counting the baby's well visit scheduled for weds!

I have an absolutely horrible cold right now. I was thinking - who gets a cold in June - but apparently there's nasty stuff going around. I just googled this exact thing this morning, and the internet told me that symptoms should start subsiding within a week (though they may not completely disappear until two weeks), if not it may be bacterial and you should check in with your doctor.

@avivoca: that's good to know, but I'm allergic to eurythromicen which I know is usually the first thing prescribed. But I've tried all the home treatments and it's not cutting it. Hopefully they have something!

@Foodnerd81: They gave me a Z-Pack for mine. I discussed it with the midwives and I took it right after I fed baby before bed. and then I was good to go when she woke up in the middle of the night. The super safe ones did nothing for me.

In your shoes, I would totally go to the doctor.

I go as soon as I can. I'm useless if I get a sinus infection and since there is no rest for the weary, I'm out for awhile if I don't stay on top of it.

Heading in this afternoon. The pain in my sinuses is really really bad. I hope they came give me something that works FAST and that's nursing safe. I'd be willing to just pump and dump but baby won't take a bottle. I managed to ignore my pain while bringing the toddler to ped for a Scary high fever. One day we will all be healthy.

I only go if I have a fever, or if the cold feels worse than normal (like a really really bad chest cough) - this has only happened twice, both times I had pneumonia.

Otherwise I never go for a cold. I've never had a sinus infection, strep, or anything like that before though, so I don't know what those symptoms feel like.

I go to the doc 10-14 days after the onset of a really bad cold, if it is showing no signs of improving. This means, for me, it has more than likely turned into a sinus infection, and even some oral steroids will help get rid of it faster (if I don't want antibiotics, but I usually do take them).

Most (good) doctors will not prescribe an antibiotic the first 7-10 days of a cold. But if you aren't sleeping due to cough, they can get you some good cough syrup!

ETA: About a month ago, I got a sore throat and within 2 days, I couldn't swallow and was in agony. THAT I went to the doc for right away! Lol. It was just a bad case of pharyngitis. A steroid shot and some pain meds nipped it in the bud. But I don't really count that as a "cold".

It usually has to be 3+ weeks of no improvement. Colds and coughs can progress for up to 14 days before improving. So unless it's so bad that I can't swallow or I have immense sinus pressure, I wait it out.

Over 95% of sinus infections are caused by cold viruses so I usually wait for prolonged fevers or worsening misery +1 wk rather than slow improvement. Out of about 20 respiratory things I had this winter (from LO starting daycare, ugh) including losing my voice at least 4x, only one turned into a nasty bacterial sinus infection needing antibiotics. That was a bad 2 wks!

I haven't been to the doctor for myself for a cold for like years, not since before lo was born for sure, and I'm not even sure when before that...But if I was still in pain after taking otc stuff (and there are nursing friendly cold meds--I think kellymom has a list) for as long as you have been, I'd go

If it's something like a cold, I usually wait a good week to see if it will clear on it's own. Most of the time the doc attempts to prescribe antibiotics that I don't end up taking anyway. I hate medication, so I basically wait until I can't take it anymore.

Everyone in our house has been sick with one thing after another. I bring the little ones to the pediatrician (as in I have my fourth visit in the last 3 weeks scheduled for this morning). Through it all I've had a bad cold for two solid weeks now and I'm pretty sure it's sinus infection. I'm thinking its time to go get checked out by an adult doctor but I feel like the answer will be rest and wait it out- and we all know rest is impossible with two sick kids.

Just wondering at what point you moms go to doctor for yourself?
