When we've left for vacations out of country or to a place where things I could potentially forget are super expensive or unavailable, I tend to start earlier. Like a week in advance with stuff I don't use daily.</p> <p>For trips to see our family etc. which is anywhere from 6-10hrs away... I'm awful. I try to do it the day before.... but lately it's been morning of. We were off to a late start last weekend when we traveled because we didn't start packing until morning of. I would probably do it earlier, but DH thinks it's funny. He's a "night before" packer.</p> <p>I have a friend who packs WEEKS in advance! I dont like to pack too early, because there's daily things that I use that I need to pack, and if I pack too early I sort of forget what I've packed and it takes longer to remember everything and look for it in my bag. It also gives me too much time to rethink what I want to bring. I don't like to wait until last minute since I dont like to feel rushed and forget something like, underwear. I keep a full list of clothing, by day, so that when I pack I pack backwards - last day's stuff on the bottom, first day's stuff on top. Now I like to start about a week in advance (up to even two if it's a long trip with a lot to pack). Something like camping, I'd probably start gathering and packing a week or so before. Short trips with easy stuff like beach trips I'll pack the night before. If we're traveling overseas, I like to pack the week of so I can take my time. If it's just a weekend trip, I pack the night before if we're leaving bright and early or the morning of if we're leaving later in the day. I like to have everything done super early. We are leaving for a camping trip on Thursday and I've already got quite a bit packed. My problem is that for things like sleep sacks and towels, we only have so many so I'll have to do a wash right before the trip and I can't pack them yet. It makes me anxious, I want it done! </p>
