@Rubies: thanks, Rubies. I did read your sleep training post. It was helpful. I decided to just nap train him too. He actually did pretty well. Unfortunately, my MIL is his caretaker during the week while I'm at work.

I nap-trained LO at the same time I was night-training her and that was at 3.5 months (a little young to most people but I made an educated decision to do so) and it took much much longer for LO to catch on than night-training.

I set up a nap routine and had her CIO for up to one hour (yes, one hour as per "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child). Most of the time she would end up falling asleep after about 20 minutes of crying but only 1-2 times did she cry for the full one hour. At that point, you rescue your child and play with them and try again one hour later.

My MIL was the same way - one time she came over during the week I was nap-training and after listening to LO cry for a few minutes, she literally pushed me aside and said, "I can't let you do that" and barged right into LO's room to get her. The a second time, I left to run errands and told MIL that under no circumstance was she to go into LO's room but when I came back a few minutes later (literally, minutes later), she was patting and cradling LO. From that point on, she was literally banned from our house for about 3 weeks until we finished nap training.

I'm currently night sleep training my baby, but not sure about naps. Do I nap train the same way I sleep train? If so, do I do it at the same time?

I'm little nervous about naps bc my MIL won't let him CIO out for naps. His naps aren't bad, but I don't want to confuse him by allowing him to be rocked and patted for naps at least by me then at night sending him another message about CIO.

Do I follow what my MIL does because she's going to do it that way when I'm gone during the day or do I make him CIO his naps because not will confuse him at night?

What's a sleep training mama to do?
