My son loves reading and is constantly bringing me books to read, so we read throughout the day and at bedtime. Recently I was trying to prepare dinner and he kept insisting I read a book to him and I told him to go read it by himself. He looked at me and wailed "I CAN'T read", it made me feel like a bad mom.

Last week she started to finally show interest in books (16 months next week) so we have been rocking and reading before bed, we read like 5-7 before bed & end with our prayer book. Weekends she will read 1-2 before getting bored during the day.

Throughout the day. Up until a month ago (he's 16 months) he only cared for 1-2 books a day, but now he brings me a book to read him on and off all day. He's totally fascinated now with his books!

at bedtime, and on the weekends a few during the day. LO isn't that interested in books so it's hard to keep it up sometimes when he's running around all over the place and i'm reading to myself.

All day long! She crawls up to me with books every few minutes and wants to read them over and over again. Honestly, it gets a little old sometimes, but I try to be enthusiastic! We also read in her chair before bedtime and get some snuggles :)

He loves to read so often throughout the day. We have books in his play area and lots in his bedroom. He gets the most reading before bed. We've been reading to his since he was about 4-5 months old to get him into a routine.

@NurseMommy: He just said that its possible she's getting TOO much language input (I think he was just trying to make me feel better :)), and we should try reading a book with simple language over and over. We just picked this one because we had it, and they often read it at the story time we go to.
I think any book with repetition and simple words is good. It was kind of boring to read the same book over and over, but now she is so into it and its awesome. I totally recommend it.

@Beebug: C is exactly the same!
Whenever the bug gets her! We have stacks of books all over the house for convenience. She'll be playing one minute and te next will toddle over to the closest stack, pick one, bring it to means say up so that I put her in my lap and start reading.

When don't we read to our LO, lol! She's a total bookworm and brings me books constantly throughout the day and crawls into my lap to have them read to her. She also flips through books on her own all day long. We started with a proper reading session when she was about two months old - I'd lay her down on a blanket on the floor during a wake time and then lay down next to her and read her stories, holding them above us so we could both see. She would happily lay there and listen/look at the pictures for up to an hour at a time. Her love of books has only grown stronger (she's 19 months now).

Bizarrely enough, we don't read bedtime stories as a regular occurrence. She likes to run around before bed and then settle herself to sleep in her cot. As she gets older, I imagine we'll establish a bedtime story routine!

@Silva: just curious why this book in particular?

We mostly read before bed, but we've also started a program called books for babies. And we used to go to a library program where they sung rhymes and read a book. We should go back. I try to incorporate them a bit throughout the day but she's only 8 months so doesn't ask for them yet.

A few times throughout the day, and before bed. We've been reading brown bear brown bear a ton at the recommendation of our ped to boost her language skills, and she gets so excited whenever she sees it now! I love it! And any book with babies faces, she starts laughing and panting.
I feel like just in the last week she has started really enjoying and paying attention to books, instead of just eating them. It makes me so happy.
She is 9 months old

Anytime, anywhere. Kid will get a book from her room and go to whereever we are (ie kitchen) sit in the middle of the floor and wait for someone to start reading to her, lol. It's funny when she does it to DH in the am and he's trying to get out the door for work! We try really hard to take that moment and not say no and so far haven't had to! Books at bedtime are the biggie, but she loves reading and wants to all the time.
