I recently had to go because I knew I had a sinus infection (I'm prone to them though) and I waited until I was 2 weeks into the cold and it was getting worse, not better... My face was also throbbing, my cheek sinus was looking swollen, and my snot was an unhealthy yellow (TMI).... got antibiotics and was better in a few days.

I'd use my neti pot twice a day, but most colds last about 10-12 days so I wouldn't go to the doctor unless I'd been sick for two weeks.

I almost never go. I was also told that most sinus infections clear up on their own, like 70%, so better to wait at least two weeks I think before taking something. But I had one last winter that just wouldn't go away- like 6 weeks probably. I was hesitant to take antibiotics because I was nursing my newborn but I finally did and it got better within days. But she also got a yeast diaper rash which made me feel horribly guilty (mom guilt).

I typically go if I haven't gotten better in a week. I made the mistake of not getting something looked at in a timely manner and I ended up on a steroid inhaler for 3 months. Even if I can't medicate, I prefer to know what I am really dealing with.

I get sinus infections all the time these days, so I would go. In my experience, getting on the antibiotic within the first two weeks makes for a much easier/faster recovery versus if I let it drag on for 4-6 weeks before going in. At that point it takes an entire cycle of antibiotics before I feel relief.

@cascademom: Thanks! I'll check that out!

@Boogs: I'm thinking of trying one of those too. I think Afrin is preggo safe.

Not pregnant, but I had similar issues a last month and my allergy nasal spray really helped!

I would definitely do a nasal rinse with a NeilMed one. It might bring you some relief especially pregnant.

@gingerbebe: I'm thinking I should just tough it out. I'm so weird about taking anything when I'm sick - I took sudafed once and benedryl once... should probably just try to zap it with something like mucinex once and for all. :bummed:

I had a similar thing at a similar point when I was pregnant and they told me they wouldn't give me antibiotics until I had been sick for 2 weeks. I wasn't happy about it but it was gone by then. Just lots of humidifier, Gatorade, Tylenol, Mucinex, and Neti pot.

I've had a cold for about 8 days now. I'm really not feeling any better than I was a week ago - super runny nose, some wheezing, bad sleep cause I can't breathe, ears are crackling, etc. I'm also 34 weeks pregnant so I'm trying not to take anything. My midwife suggested I see my PCP and possibly get antibiotics. I never go to the PCP so it feels a little dramatic for a cold but if its a sinus infection I want to get it taken care of. What would you do?
