At first, we did almost 15 minutes per side. You'll always be able to get a little bit out and thats why they will always stay on one side if you let them! One side might be enough for now because the stomach is still so small, but later when you want to stretch the feedings apart start to offer both sides.

I only nurse one side each session (I started that because it gave each boob a little more time to recover in those painful early days). If she still seemed like she was hungry, I would offer the other side.

I think you'll always be able to express a little bit of milk out. I know now, at 8 months, I still can, but she won't drink if it's not flowing at a certain rate.

In the early days, I timed each side - I think 10-15 minutes each side. I didn't want to take her off too soon bc then she wouldnt get the hind milk...

And I don't think my breasts ever totally emptied... I think I could always express a little bit. You could try switching around the 10-15 minute mark , or if baby is too full, start nursing from that side at the next feeding?

Liam would nurse and nurse on one side forever if I let him. I just sort of took him off whenever I felt like it was time (after about 10 minutes, but I never timed it) and then offer the other side. If he was full, he would turn away (rare) and then I might pump, or just remember to start on that side next time.

Baby J is 8 days old and has mostly been satisfied/ asleep after nursing on one side. Now that I'm less engorged I wonder if he needs the second side. He never really takes himself off the first side though - just sort of falls asleep but I can still hear swallowing. How do I know when to switch?

If I can still express a little milk from the first side after taking him off does that means I shoulf have just let him continue on that side? I feel like a FTM all over again with this stuff!
