The only production we usually go to is A Christmas Carol every year - we took DSS at age 8 - so will probably stick to that for our kids too!

Now if it was the Nutcracker and your LO can sit and watch a long movie without getting up then maybe age 4-5?

I think we might take LO to the Nutcracker for her 4th birthday (she has a December birthday). I don't know that I would be comfortable earlier than that...I think I'd just be really anxious - she'd probably do great! :)

I think it really depends on the kid. My son is almost 4 and is a huge scaredy cat. He can't even watch films like Cars or Toy Story without freaking out after 10 minutes, so at this rate, probably not until he's 6 or 7?

There is a children's theater in Charlotte that I have been to with D a few times. He'd never want to sit through the Nutcracker, though. But, he's sat through The Lion King when they toured through. It definitely depends on what the show is. It's not even fun for YOU, if the kid isn't enjoying themselves.

The first thing we took her to was YGG Live at 18 months and she was fine. For the Nutcracker, she was 3.5 and loved it! She's always had a good attention span and has been able to sit through all the shows I've taken her to.

They do a performance of The Grinch at our local theater. I don't think I'll take D this year, but hopefully next! I think the Nutcracker would be way too long for him for quite awhile.

I think it depends. Like... Disney on Ice? Probably like age 2-3? I would say, for the most part, probably 4 at the earliest.

I do theatre. Im in a show right now that goes up in a couple weeks. I can say that a there is nothing that breaks your concentration like a screaming child in the audience (besides maybe a cell phone. Turn that shit off!). If you're confident that your kid can sit through it, let them. If you think there is any chance they will have a meltdown, please dont. In a large venue like an arena, I wouldnt think this would be a huge deal though. Im talking more like a small theater.

I took T to Sesame St Live in October when he was 29 months. He sat through it for 1.5 hours.

We're taking DD to the Nutcracker this year, she'll be 3 years 8 months. It's a shortened version for children, though. Her classmate went to the same performance last year when she had just turned 3. Our area has other Nutcracker performances that are geared toward young children and only 45 mins long. I would definitely consider taking a 2-year-old to something that short.

I took J to Disney on Ice when he was 14 months, YGG Live when he was almost 2 and we just saw YGG again a few weeks ago (he's almost 3). He's so mesmerized, he just sits and watches. Then talks about it the whole way home.
I want to bring him to the Nutcracker. Kids of all ages are welcome but must have a ticket, so it could be pricey. I haven't decided yet whether we'll go.

For some reason, I am very much looking forward to introducing LO to live theater. My family really prioritized that in my life growing up and I want her to experience a lot of the same things I did.

She'll be two in a couple of weeks, but I don't think she'd be able to sit through the Nutcracker performance I'm seeing next weekend. So we didn't get her a ticket. I wonder if she'll be mature enough to see it next year? It might have to be even the year after that, when she's 4.

When did you start taking LO to live performances? Are there any types of theater in your area geared towards toddler aged kids?
