@mrstilly: Our doctor said to get toothpaste without floride- so it must not be a problem here.

DS has 8 teeth (he's 12 mos) and the pediatrician just now told us to have him start playing with a toothbrush. After he plays with it for a while, try brushing his teeth a little, then eventually add in the baby toothpaste. He said it was more about starting.the routine early at this point. DS still gets a bottle of formula at bedtime, but is on cows milk in a sippee during the day. I plan to start weaning him off the nightime bottle of formula when we run out and then switch to water in a sippee. The Dr also wrote a rx for floride since our town water doesn't have floride in it. Anyone else giving their LO floride drops?

@Rubies: No I think it's the same. Since they'll still have milk on their teeth when going to bed. But it sounds like everybody else does it too, so now I don't feel so bad.

Yeah, I always wondered that, too. It seemed most convenient to brush after the bath since we were in the bathroom and then give the last feed in the bedroom. But we got rid of the bedtime bottle at 15 months so then I didn't have to worry about rotting her teeth anymore.

We brushed and then still gave a bottle of formula until one year. At that time we switched to water in the bottle right before bed.

That's what I thought. I still brush, even though she has a bottle at night still. I just make sure to not let her sleep with it.

OMG, more things to worry and stress about! My mom says that until the day a mom dies, she never stops worrying about her kids. Sheesh!

Is bottle feeding different from breastfeeding in this context?

Today we went to the doctor and they said since LO has two teeth it's time to start brushing. So the plan is to brush in the morning and bedtime. But if we give her a bottle at bedtime, doesn't that ruin the brushing we just did? She's 9 months.
