I hate being last because everyone is loitering the aisles, rummaging their carry-ons and putting away their jackets. I'll suck waiting forever for the guy that's oblivious of people behind him and taking his sweet time sorting his bag (and there's always at least one of them). That way there are less people in the plane so it is easier to get things settled and move around. The worst thing that could happen is that there wouldn't be room for your carry on bag and they would have to gate check it. At the door to the plane you leave it an they put it underneath with the rest of the luggage. After the flight you wait at the plane to get it back. First to board means your are guaranteed room for your luggage but you have to entertain baby in the seat for an extra 30 minutes. And now with the constant booked flights and being charged for checkin bags, the overhead storage gets filled up so quickly. It's better to get there first to claim some space near your seat. (My beef with UA is more to do with their incompetent workers who almost always had DH and i miss our flights out of the Sacramento airport!) I was going to say this too... Early boarding with kids is getting more and more rare these days. Depends on the airline... But yes, another reason to just wait til the end if that's the case. It's not fun standing in line waiting to board... Might as well sit at the gate for a bit longer til most people are already settled. I think it was United Airlines. We watched one mom with a stroller try and she was turned away. We take out the tissues, snacks sippy cup, iPhone, and other necessities and stuff them in seat back and let the LOs scope out the surroundings. We always did priority boarding because if we waited there would be no two seats next to each other left. Alone. I'll have one carry-on suitcase (technically it shouldn't be allowed. i know, i'm bad) and a diaper bag. I am debating not bothering to be one of the first to board, and letting LO play and move around and board at the very last minute. What do you do when traveling? Do you board first or wait until the very end?
