I have a lot of memories of just me and my dad. I loved "tracking" deer in the woods behind our house and being pulled in my wooden sled on the street after a blizzard. I'd snuggle up next to him while he watched baseball on summer nights and he'd carry me up the stairs to bed after I passed out. Every day he'd say "where's my hug today?", and "One day you're going to say you're too big for hugs" and I actually remember that day. I was like 15 and he was dropping me off at camp in front of my friends (sigh). I can't wait to do all of those things with my son. Anyone else want to call their parents immediately!? ETA: Got to also give my mom some credit here too! Since I was a baby she'd tickle my feet every night, so I loooove it to this day - not even the slightest ticklish. I beg DH to do it but he's understandably not as obliging! Just come get me in the middle of the day without warning and we'd go do something fun. My mom did the same but she'd just keep me out all day. It was always extra awesome because I never knew the day before and it was 1-on-1 time. He always got doughnuts to have for breakfast, we got to watch cartoons, and we all had lunch together. We loved it. My mom always made us a dessert of our choosing for our half birthday and we all sang happy half birthday. I'm planning to continue the same tradition with my kids. My parents always went for a nightly walk around the neighborhood after dinner, and still do. And always "sunday dinner" for after church on Sundays. When we got older, sometimes she would take us to a "late movie" on a school night. Totally scandalous and so fun. I remember watching Driving Miss Daisy in the theater at a 9 pm showing and I was like, 8 or 9 year old. And she took us to a late showing of Schindler's List and gave us a serious talk about how it was R rated, but about a very important subject matter that she felt strongly that every person of every age should know about, so she wanted us to see it, anyway. My dad was an airline pilot and was rarely home on actual holidays, so we started doing our Christmas at night...And he started this funny tradition where he would chant "Christmas tonight! Christmas tonight!", allllll day the day we were celebrating, and then eventually, we would all get up and chant with him. Sometimes we would form a sort of conga line, dancing around the house changing Christmas Tonight! Christmas tonight! And a few times, I distinctly remember him leading the conga line while playing Christmas songs on his violin. I hope I can do that when DD is old enough to know. My mom had Fridays off. She would take us grocery shopping and buy cherry donut holes (they only had them on Fridays). My dad drank a pop (diet Pepsi or mt. Dew) on his way home from work. When he picked me up from daycare (6 yrs old?), He'd let me drink the last teaspoon out of the bottle (now I realize it was backwash...). My brother and I split a pack of poptarts every Saturday morning. My dad gave us "taxi rides" to bed (piggie back rides). My mom would call the taxi and dad would give us a horsey or piggyback ride. Pretty sure mom just didn't want to get up :wink: My mom put her lipstick on me for special occasions (christmas mass) from a fairly young age (6 years?). We also painted our toe nails a certain color when we were camping. We collected white sea shells at the beach and used watercolors to paint them. :heart: this post ETA: I'm such a fatty. I wonder what my LOs will remember about their childhoods... My dad would tickle my back whenever I would wake up at night. I'd knock on the wall and he'd come in and tickle my back until I fell back asleep. Every Friday we went out to dinner. Oh and he would put a blanket on and chase us around and tickle us when he caught us, we loved it. My dad and I had a secret hand holding language where I would try to guess what he was saying when I was holding his hand based on the squeezes, usually it was just I love you (or so I guessed! Then she'd fluff up the sheet over my head and let it just drift down gently. I loved our bedtime routine. Now that DD1 can communicate, every night as I leave her room, she says "I love you mamama" and then I say "I love you too KinKinKin" and then she loves me three...ect. It's a little thing, but it's sweet, and something ahe started doing and requesting on her own, so it's special to me. Do you have specific routines that you wish your child would always remember even when they are 40 years old? Do you have any good memories from your childhood yourself and how would you complete the sentence? It doesn't have to be super special, just a certain routine that they/we'd probably remember for life. For me, when I was a child, my dad used to take me to the playground every saturday morning when my mom slept in :-) One day it just seem to have abruptly stopped. We never really talked about why but I was always sad about it. Maybe I was too old for the playground. For my DS, I take him to food truck wednesdays whenever we could at a nearby park for dinner. We lay down a picnic blanket under a big tree, we'd buy food, eat and take selfies laying on the blanket. He sometimes play with his balanced bike or scooter, or run around in the park. That is one of the moments I hope he'd always remember when grows up :)
